[After mounted anticipation, R&B singer Ayron Michael and FM Records head Kemar “Flava” McGregor have delivered their new “Blessing In Disquise” single. The duo talk to SOHH and decode the must-hear banger.]
The really unique and exciting thing about doing the “Blessing In Disquise” record was that I loved the track as soon as I heard it and the feel of it had that Jamaican and reggae style. I really loved the track and I was just like, “I’m going to put myself into it and see what comes.”
I didn’t try to be reggae, I was just being myself with this song. When I was done, I had laid out an entire demo of it and said to myself, “Wow, this is awesome and I hope that [FM Records head Kemar McGregor] likes it.”
I had to be true to myself but at the same time, I wanted to be true to the genre as well. –Ayron Michael

The whole concept is not to have the track sound like a traditional reggae song. For instance, Justin Bieber’s “Sorry,” when you hear that song we know it’s a reggae track. But to the mass listeners and fans, they don’t see it as a reggae song but just as a Justin Bieber song. It’s a hot song. That’s the concept of “Blessing In Disquise.”
Even though it was a reggae element, it ‘is’ a pop song. What Ayron did to it is exactly what I envisioned and what I want to hear. I didn’t want it to sound like traditional like traditional reggae. I wanted it to have that pop vibe to it and for him to kill it. –Kemar McGregor
