DJ Khaled protege Ace Hood recently spoke on his rap career and revealed his aim to one day reach the same success as hip-hop mogul Diddy.

Predicting his status five years from 2009, Hood revealed where he would like to see his career go.

"I'm going to be so rich," he explained in an interview. "My brand is going to be like a Bad Boy label. We're going to be one of the biggest mobs in the game. We going to have everything on smash. I might just build another community in another island or something. Show you whatt We The Best is! Nah, but for real, 5 years from now, I just hope to be successful. One day, I could have artists of my own being able to buy their own million dollar cribs, and have things of their own. Have their own Bentleys and Phantoms. I just wanna have Ace Hood bumping in every city, like a New York. I could just have an Ace Hood poster or an Ace Hood clothing line. Just have a brand for myself. I just want people to see Ace Hood as the rapper, the dude with the clothing line, all while the money is counting up. That's how we gonna get it." (Hip Hop Game)

Dipset's Juelz Santana recently discussed past record label powerhouses and his desire to reach the level of success for his Skull Gang crew as Bad Boy and Roc-A-Fellas has had.

"That was the whole plot," Santana said in an interview. "For everybody, for all of us to have, how can I put it? Roc-A-Fella, Bad Boy and Death Row, we all bosses in our own right. We got the swag, we got the energy. That's what I feel the whole idea of it is. To get us to the point where everybody's team is solidified and all the bosses are still comfortable with each other and we can all come to the table. Roc-A-Fella, Death Row and Bad Boy, imagine what the tour would have been like." (MTV News)

Speaking at the Core DJ's conference in Atlanta earlier this year, Diddy stressed Bad Boy's relevance within the music industry.

"Bad Boy is important," he explained in a video. "We have not sold out and all this stuff, we trying to do these types of records over here and those, we make Bad Boy records. And that's preserving your brand, and the thing that's bigger than Bad Boy is we are the last label standing. No disrespect to the other labels, but there is no Roc-A-Fella. There is no Ruff Ryders, there is no Death Row. So if this label doesn't make it, this is the last of the labels and that means nobody else can come out with a label. Then it just turns into production deals." (YouTube)

In addition to Hood's Ruthless being released last week, the rapper will also face sales competition from Maino and R&B singer Jeremih.

Based on one-day estimates, rising Def Jam/IDJ R&B star Jeremih sees his self-titled debut with 45-50k, thanks to the strength of the multi-format smash, "Birthday Sex." Atlantic Brooklyn rapper Maino's debut, If Tomorrow Comes..., will bow with between 18-23k, while Def Jam/IDJ Florida hip-hop newcomer Ace Hood's sophomore album Ruthless appears headed for the same sales territory.
The Game recently spoke on the making of his Michael Jackson tribute song "Better On The Other Side" and how he was able to get Diddy and Chris Brown on the same track with short notice.

Taking credit for coming up with the tribute record, Game said he reached out to DJ Khalil and then began making his rounds with the featured artists.

"I started reaching out to Diddy," Game said in an interview. "He's on a set 18 hours a day, but he said he'd get it done some way, somehow. Talked to Chris Brown. He and [his manager] Tina Davis said they were on their way to the studio -- so they told me after I do my part, to bring it over and Chris will do the hook. Before I took the beat over to Chris, Boyz II Men walked into the studio randomly -- so they took it to their studio next door, laid down all the background vocals. Then I took it to Mario [Winans], then I took it to Diddy. In the meantime, me and my boy Taydoe -- we running around to the hospital, to the Jacksons' house, to the star on Hollywood, getting all this [secondary] footage [for the video]. Crazy...All the proceeds of anything that I do that has anything to do with Michael Jackson will go to his family and his children. And that's just the bottom line." (CNN)

Early behind-the-scenes footage of the forthcoming music video spread online last week.

"With nearly five minutes of footage, both The Game and Chris Brown are seen in various screen shots recording their tribute song in a studio. The West Coast emcee also appears to be getting a Michael Jackson tattoo and is seen in a bath tub with a bottle of liquor and note pad. Other shots include fans, kids and adults alike, wearing shirts with Jackson's face, dancing, smiling and keeping the singer's memory alive." (SOHH)

The music video's director, Taydoe, has weighed in on why he joined forces with Game for the tribute song's visual representation.

"I got the bad news about MJ and I called Game, since I know he was a fan of MJ also," he wrote in a statement. "He said 'I gotta pay my respects. I'm doing a tribute song!' My first thoughts were to edit a tribute video from Taydoe TV. When he came up with this brilliant idea, it was only right to collaborate and direct a video to accompany the song. I sent one camera to the hospital, one camera to the house and one camera to the studio to ensure we cover all avenues on this day. During the editing process, the footage was so monumental in the sense that everyone was together and enjoying each others love for MJ. I enjoyed the process of directing this tribute video and feel honored to be a part of history." (YouTube)

Game's tribute song features Puff, Brown, Winans, Usher and Boyz II Men.

"You're Michael Jackson, I'm Michael Jackson," Game raps. "We all Michael Jackson, I guess what I'm asking, is everybody bow their head for a legend/Don't breathe for a second, now let air out, grab the hand of somebody you care about/So you can hear my message, hear my confession/Everybody tell Usher, I seen a moonwalk/Guess the young Thriller touched him/He touched me, like he touched you." ("Better On The Other Side")

G-Unit leader 50 Cent recently spoke on his admiration for Method Man and why the Staten Island emcee, in his opinion, out-shined the entire Wu-Tang Clan.

In addition to Mef, the rapper also spoke on GZA's rhyming skills and overall content.

"I always thought he was better than the rest of 'em," Fif said in an interview. "Maybe that's why he had to come out first. I listen to his music still...Sh*t, he had one of those moments where whatever he said was golden. He was just in that zone. F*ck that, that sh*t is still hot. What the music said to me and the impression it had on me in that time frame is still there. I had one of them say something about me, one of the Wu-Tang...The Genius I think, but I never really liked his music. His was always so smart that it was stupid, I didn't really like his sh*t. It was good but it wasn't, Mef was better than him to me...Mef was the one, that's why it went first and I'm sure they know that...He had what was necessary for that sh*t to go off." (XXLMag)

Fif previously aired out his issues with GZA last year in defense for teen rapper Soulja Boy Tell Em.

"Recently I seen a video on YouTube and the video was of the GZA, that's short for The Genius," in an interview. "He's a 'Genius', I'm sure everyone else has forgotten who he is also," 50 said. "This guy gets on stage and obviously he's drunk, and he starts talking about Soulja Boy who is 16 years old. Shout out to Soulja Boy. Soulja Boy's hot, he had a hot song, he produced the record. Genius should shut up, just shut up! Kid is 16 years old and we googled you, you were born in '66. He was born in 1966. Listen, I have an old school Chevy Impala your age." (Def Sounds)

The rapper recently spoke on his admiration for Soulja Boy and talked about Charles Hamilton's publicized altercation with his alleged girlfriend.

"At the end of the day, knowing that you have that hit record at 16 is gonna change his mother's house, put his mom in a new house, make Christmas different for his sister and kids that look up to him," Fif explained. "He hotter than half them n*ggas down there to me. He got commercial, hit records...He was beefing with Charles Hamilton, I seen a girl knock this n*gga the f*ck out...He lucky he ain't hit her back. He woulda hit her and got his a** beat. They woulda put that n*gga through the meat grinder. You don't [come back from that.] You say, 'Look, I'm a gentleman.' You play the gentleman role after that because if he would have hit dude's daughter, n*ggas woulda, ah man." (Radio Planet TV)

He also shared his thoughts on rap newcomer Drake and his upcoming collaboration alongside Jay-Z last month.

"[Lil Wayne] has that new kid, what's his name, Drake," Fif said in an interview. "The kid is coming up. I heard Jay-Z got him on his single. Right? That was ill, like, that was fast! For him to put him on his single, like that's ill. I don't know if he's rhyming or singing but the fact that he's on it is hot. Like that was a fast come-up. Jay won't even rap on his own artists and be in the video with 'em. Freeway, he did Freeway dirty. In the Freeway project, we were doing something together. It was all of us together, Jay had a record with Freeway and I said 'If you shoot that one, I'll shoot the one that I did with him and we'll make the video.' Now tell me that ain't the perfect scenario for Freeway." (Hot 97)

BET has reportedly responded to last weekend's controversial Lil Wayne and Drake performance and claimed various aspects of their set was unplanned.

The network has released a statement which addressed Wayne's entire Young Money crew.

"BET Networks deeply regrets the performance by Young Money at the BET AWARDS '09 (featuring Lil Wayne, Drake, Gudda Gudda and Mack Maine)," a BET rep said in a statement. "Elements of the performance were unplanned and should not have happened." (All Hip Hop)

Drake also explained his regret for the performance's overall turn-out.

"That, actually -- to be honest -- was a terrible idea that I'll never do to myself again," he said in an interview. "But I was being pressed from different areas to perform, and I think what really happened at the BET Awards is with the passing of [Michael Jackson], the climate really changed, as far as the award show goes. I don't think it called for us to perform "Every Girl" and "Always Strapped," and I think it was an award show filled with tributes and music and these genuine heartfelt speeches. And to sort of climax out of a very tongue-n-cheek point, and then people misconstruing Wayne's daughters and her friends coming out on stage -- it was just timed very poorly and it definitely wasn't planned like that, but with that being said, it is what is. I believe in Wayne and myself and it's nothing we can't bounce back from. To anyone who was offended, my personal apologies, it wasn't intended to offend anybody." (Complex)

Sources close to Weezy's camp also weighed in on what allegedly went down with the appearance of pre-teen girls on-stage.

According to my source, what happened was Wayne's daughter Reginae, 9, was upset that she didn't get the chance to accompany her father, Lil Wayne, to the stage to accept his award because she was sitting too far back in the audience. Once backstage, the youngster began to cry. And Wayne, who they say is a great dad, hated to see his little girl cry. So he told Reginae she could come out onstage during his performance with Drake. Reginae, being the team player that she is, asked the other members of her group to go out on stage with her. (Sandra Rose)

Award-winning filmmaker Byron Hurt expressed his discontent with the set and inked an open letter to BET President Debra Lee.

"Show executives watched, approved, and applauded as artists Lil Wayne, Drake, and Cash Money brought young, under-aged girls onto the stage to dance and serve as window dressing while they performed 'Every Girl,' a song that reduces girls and women to sex objects," he wrote. "In a culture where one out of four girls and women are either raped or sexually assaulted - and where manipulative men routinely traffic vulnerable women into the sex industry - it is not okay that BET allowed this to happen. BET owes its entire audience - particularly girls and women around the world - an apology for its failure to intervene." (The Urban Daily)

Joe Budden recently spoke on G-Unit's Lloyd Banks and how he would want the opportunity to record with the rapper and go bar-for-bar with "The Punchline King."

Despite having a rap beef with the Unit in recent years, Budden said he was open to a collaboration with the emcee.

"I wanna do a song with Lloyd Banks," Budden revealed in a live blog chat on Friday (July 3) afternoon alongside his friend/producer Dough Boy. "I gotta get him, pause. Yeah, that's what I want. I think he's ducking me. I think Banks was dope and then he fell the f*ck off and then he got right back up. So personally, for me, I would want to do a song with him. Nah, he don't got no personality. I'd have to see if I could tear him up [on a record]." (Blog TV)

Joey informed fans via Twitter that he would be broadcasting live earlier today.

"Over here at @jerseydoughboy crib, fillin up the iPod... I'm souped !!," he wrote. "my blogtv account is deactivated ??????? wtf http://www.blogtv.com/Peopl... live w/ @jerseydoughboy & his girl ! I'm broadcasting on @blogTV.com now, come see me! http://www.blogtv.com/peopl..." (Joe Budden's Twitter)

Budden previously mended his issues with The Game last summer.

"We weren't the best of friends, me and G-Unit, at the time so I guess yeah, I can see how the line was taken out of context," said Budden of a mixtape line which allegedly sparked a beef. "And then Game just dissed me. He felt some type of way about what I said and then he sent some shots my way and vice versa -- yeah it was beef...The other day me and him connected. He reached out we had a great great conversation." (Vlad TV)

His tension with the Unit reportedly stemmed from a DJ Clue mixtape.

On a DJ Clue tape, Joey spit an ambiguous punchline: "He should be in the G-Unit vid with all the gangster actors." DJ Clue pasted an unrelated Game verse onto the same song, so Game?s new boss 50 Cent took note. After 50 [Cent] asked Game about it, the rookie Compton MC decided to craft his response "Buddens." (Complex)

Lloyd Banks, also called "The Punch Line King," recently spoke on his re-emergence onto the mixtape scene.

"I would lie to say it doesn't," Banks said regarding Lil Wayne's motivation. 'You need something -- it's right there plain in your face. I always felt like that was the formula, like that was the structure I needed to be successful. It's just like the record label looks at it like you're over-saturating. They don't understand the freestyle. They don't make any money off of the freestyle. Anything that they don't make money off of, it doesn't make sense. That's why I had to get away from it. You can't tell me this shit doesn't make sense when this is what got me sittin' in your office. We've done it! We've made it possible for Wayne to understand that formula, and he took it and ran with it!" (Hip Hop DX)

In addition to speaking on his return, Rule also announced the launch of his own website.

"Word to God, Rule York in the building," he said in a video. "That's the motherf*cking first blog on Rule York TV on the iPhizzle cam n*gga. I'm getting a lot of hardcore footage. All you b*tch a** n*ggas out there, I'm letting y'all know I'm coming and I'm f*cking, oh, I got a chip on my shoulders this year b*tch. I'ma let you know something for real for real, brand new n*gga. Nothing f*cking stale, faded, brand new n*gga. Get ready. I'm lettin' y'all n*ggas know man, you got about 60 to 90 days then I'ma put my d*ck in your mouth man. Watch yourselves homies, telling you." (Forbez DVD)

He previously updated fans on his relationship with Irv Gotti.

"I'm working, I'm not in a rush," he revealed in an interview about his forthcoming project. "I'm in the studio working every day. I'm about to go in the studio and work right now and finish up on the album. The album's coming out incredible. It's very different. I wanted to make it special. I wanted the album to be out of this world, and it's definitely shaping up to that. I'm not in a rush. I got a new situation -- my Empire Music Group. Gotti's got Murder Inc. We're both still together -- there's no separation. We're both together doing what we do, but I got my own situation and I got new artists. We're putting it together." (MTV)

Rule also spoke on the state of hip-hop and New York rappers earlier this year.

"We fighting against other genres," Rule declared in an interview. "We fightin' against motherf*ckin' rock. We fightin' against pop. We fightin' against these other genres of music. We need to be together as a whole and not separating ourselves between West and East and South. I think New York is making a strong comeback right now. I think we doin' our thing, we got Maino, we got Red Cafe. I think New York is making a surgence. I got my acts outta New York, I'm coming with a crazy album right now. But you know as a whole, it's not about New York...it's about hip-hop. We all in this together. So when I think about it, that's really my feelings on the situation." (57th Ave)

The rapper announced his initial comeback and new jewelery line in a video last winter.

"New album coming real soon, I ain't gonna give nobody no dates," Ja said in an interview. "None of that 'We pushin' it back, we pushin' it back' so I ain't giving y'all no motherf*cking date. It's coming real soon. We finishing it up. It's f*cking crazy. Y'all n*ggas get ready. We gonna have a good time this year...[I got a] new jewelry line coming real soon. Y'all can go to Itshot.com to check out all the new pieces from the Rule." (Sub Zero DVD)

Slaughterhouse's Royce Da 5'9 recently spoke on his rap group's upcoming self-titled album debut and promised hip-hop fans a return to lyricism.

Joined by Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Crooked I for their Rock the Bells tour in support of their new LP, the Detroit-based rapper explained what makes his crew different from others.

"Slaughterhouse is classic," Royce said in an interview. "It's what you expect from Slaughterhouse and then some. We actually making records. I don't think a lot of people can say that. They're expecting lyrics from the jump. First thing they're gonna want to hear is lyrics. You're going get that front to back. But you're also going to get great songwriting, great song structures, great feel, all the group members show versatility with this album. Everyone just stepped up. I'm really proud of everybody...My dream album is an album that you can combine hip-hop with the streets. It's not too hip-hop. It's not earthy and happy. Then it's street but it's not so, 'Oh my God. I'm gonna kill, kill, kill.' There's still a hip-hop element there." (The Boom Box)

Royce recently spoke with SOHH about their delayed debut release.

"You still gon' get the music," Royce promised. "It's not like you not gon' hear no Slaughterhouse music until then. We'll still have the single setting up." (SOHH)

Crooked I also confirmed with SOHH their release date and why music outweighs profits.

"It's in concrete, August 11th," he said. "This is what we need at this time period in hip-hop. This project is what we need. It ain't all about the money. If we doing sh*t for money then I'd probably have a number one ringtone right now. I do it for the love. I do it for the pasion. I do it for the art form. That's something that the fans should appreciate even more, the fact that we are willing to sacrifice the money to come and do a group in this economy and it's four of us. It's not for the money man." (SOHH)

The rap group has received both positive and negative feedback from fans and rappers alike including J-Hood.

"N*ggas thought I wasn't gon' say nothing, like I wasn't gonna address it," Hood said in an interview. "F*ggot a** H*e Buddens, Joyce Da 5'9 and motherf*cking, what's that n*gga's name? Slanted I, Crooked I, whatever the f*ck your name is my n*gga. Y'all n*ggas are a** my n*gga. Y'all n*ggas are rolling with a n*gga that got a n*gga locked up, got the homie Ransom locked up after he went to your homie's house and smacked the sh*t outta him, he ain't smack the sh*t outta him, his man smacked the sh*t outta him. Next couple days after that the n*gga was locked up. I don't want no beef with y'all n*ggas, you getting n*ggas locked up. Plus y'all n*ggas is 30 plus my n*gga. Old head a** n*ggas. 'Pump Pump Pump It Up,' f*ck outta here...You and your mans talking that Slaughterhouse bullsh*t, get outta here with that." (Major Moves DVD)

Slaughterhouse is due in stores Tuesday, August 11th via E1 Music.

Rap newcomer Drake has revealed the strategy he plans to implement for his Thank Me Later debut and who he has collaborated with so far.

The newly signed Young Money rapper said he will model the upcoming album based from his popular So Far Gone mixtape.

"I just gotta get this tour knocked out," Drake explained in an interview. "I'm working on it right now though, I was actually just in the studio with Pharrell. It's basically a 'laxed process for us and basically So Far Gone worked so lets just try to do it again, lets act as if we were making a second disc for So Far Gone. Or picking up on the places that I feel So Far Gone missed out on a couple things, taking away things people liked but didn't respond to as much as they did say like a 'Best I Ever Had,' 'Uptown,' the joint with Lloyd. There were certain things on that record I unanimously know people loved, there are things people didn't necessarily understand. So I'm just basically trying to find the strongest point to So Far Gone and make an album based off that." (MTV)

He recently spoke on his record deal with Lil Wayne's company and importance of being an independent artist.

"I definitely want to clear this up, I didn't sign to Universal," he promised in an interview. "I'm actually signed to...a lot of people were telling me, 'Oh, you should do it independent.' I'm actually 100 percent independent. I signed to Cortez Bryant and G. Roberson, my managers, so I signed a joint venture between Aspire Music Group, which is them, and Young Money. So the only part that Universal plays is P&D [pressing and distribution]. I'm not a Universal artist. I'm signed to myself...Somebody told me they saw my deal the other day and they said it was one of the worst record deals in history [for] the label. That's a good thing for me. I own everything, I have 100 percent creative control, I own all my masters, everything. I'm blessed to be in that situation. If we sell some records, I think we'll just add to the historic pace that this has been going at." (Complex)

Drizzy confirmed his Weezy deal earlier this week.

"We signed a joint venture with Young Money which is Lil Wayne's company," he explained in an interview. "The courting was nice, I had some great dinners in hotels, I got some nice things [during the bidding war.] I think the best part about it is that we've done this thing in the industry where it's been so organic to do it with the people that I'm doing it with. It's kinda like we're doing it by ourselves. It's distributed through Universal." (Alexa Chung)

Online reports spread last week which hinted at Drake partnering with Universal.

According to several sources on the left coast, Toronto native, and Hip-Hop's second coming, Drake, who's been used as tug toy between Atlantic Records, Universal Records, Interscope Records and Def Jam Records has allegedly inked a deal with Universal Records. From my understanding, Drake was set to announce his new found Hip-Hop residence some time soon, but I guess word got out a little premature and landed directly in my lap. Now, the lil birdie who threw me this tidbit got the information straight from the label, so you can kill the LowKey's making up ish commentary - ASAP. And if this doesn't serve true, well someone up at Universal Records has a lot of explaining to do. (BET)

Rap duo The Clipse's forthcoming Till The Casket Drops album will miss its anticipated summer release and land in stores this fall.

Pusha T said the album will drop later this year and also spoke on his experiences working with The Neptunes for their latest project.

"Third album by The Clipse is entitled Till The Casket Drops," Pusha T said in an interview. "It's coming out late September, as far as production on it, a majority of it is by The Neptunes...Till The Casket Drops is just what we say down in Virginia. It's usually in relation to saying you saying you not gonna stop, the hustle ain't gonna stop...Somedays [working with the Neptunes] is a tug-of-war. Somedays it's as simple as walking in the studio and hearing something crazy coming out the speakers. Other days you go back and forth and you fight over what you think is it and what you think is not. Everything is always good with the Neptunes, it's always something good. It's just a thing about can it be better." (Rap-Up)

Pusha recently announced various artists attached to the album.

"I mean production by the Neptunes, features from Keri Hilson, Kanye West, Cam'ron, Pharrell," Pusha said in an interview last month. "We just put together an amazing album and I'm really happy about that." Other names attached to the album include Timbaland, Scott Storch, P. Diddy and Danjahandz. (Much Music)

He also said the final product would be his and Malice's "best" work to date.

"We working on the new album right now, Clipse classic," Pusha T said in an interview earlier this year. "By far it's going to be the best Clipse album yet...As of right now we're working with a whole multitude of producers right now, we ain't got all the features in place yet but we got Sean C & LV, we got The Neptunes of course, we get Shawty Redd. We got The Justice League, we got DJ Khalil." (Straight Spittas DVD)

Def Jam co-founder Rick Rubin also stepped up to help produce tracks on the album.

Legendary producer Rick Rubin has been working on tracks for the Clipse's long-awaited third album this month, the rap duo's camp tells EW. Rubin, who signed the Clipse to Columbia Records shortly after taking over as the label's co-chairman in 2007, has completed one tune with them so far in a Malibu studio; they plan to work with him on one to two more in the coming weeks.
50 Cent has released his new Forever King mixtape and promised more upcoming music to land online throughout the rest of the summer.

Following up his War Angel tape, the G-Unit leader spoke on his newly released street banger.

"It was Sincerely Southside Part 2, but I changed it to Forever King because of the content," he explained in an interview. "I wanted to not just make all '90s music, I wanted to switch up the content a little bit. Also, calling it Sincerely Southside would cause an expectation based on Part 1. So I called it Forever King. In the past, you've had artists, when they feel they're on top their game, say they are, or would be considered, the King in New York City. So I feel on top of my game. It's actually one of the laws of power: Act as if you're a king to be treated like a king." (MTV)

The cover art, which features a diamond encrusted skull and tribute to Michael Jackson, in addition to the tracklisting have all been released online.

Forever King: "I'm Paranoid," "Respect It Or Check It," "Suicide Watch," "Things We Do," "Get The Money," "Funny How time Flies," "If U Leaving, Then Leave...," "Dreaming," "Michael Jackson Freestyle," "London Girl Pt. 2," "Touch Me" and "Put That Work In."
In addition to the new mixtape, the rapper has promised more free music for fans.

"I'm pressing the re-start button man," Fif said in an interview. "I need a record deal, anybody that'll sign me? We gonna go to the second mixtape, the next mixtape will be out July 3rd, it's called Forever King, I'll put another one out right after.War Angel, that's out now. I don't care, I just wanna make music. Sometimes I get in pocket, where I'm in a good space creatively and I can write anything. I wrote four records just last night. Like I've been up for almost 43 hours." (Radio Planet TV)

Aside from the rap game, Fif also paid homage to Michael Jackson's legacy in an interview last week.

"I think everybody was [affected by his death]," Fif explained. "Ain't nobody bigger than Mike. 700 million copies? You do that much, not even that, get away from the actual record sales and look at how long. Some people are made for it, so when you come on and you're a star artist and a hit artist at the same time at five [years old],god d*mn. You got kids out there that are great on the Disney Channel, they ain't got major hit records at that point in this time frame and I guess the dynamics of how we accept entertainment at this point is different too. So it changed things but Mike and them, it's not something that's common or we'd have another one. We don't have another one." (Shade 45)

Forever King is reportedly available via ThisIs50.com

Grand Hustle's Killer Mike has called out both 50 Cent and Jay-Z for their recent attempts to spark a "return" to hardcore hip-hop and said he has already paved the way.

While claiming he has respect for rappers like Jay, Mike explained why he should be credited for maintaining hip-hop's hardcore feel as of recently.

"I don't wanna hear none of that bullsh*t from none of the n*ggas," Mike said in an interview. "I dropped I Pledge Allegiance to the Grind II last year. If you wanna hear hardcore hip-hop, go to the store, go get I Pledge Allegiance to the Grind II...I don't wanna hear that bullsh*t, these n*ggas who got millions of dollars talking about bringing sh*t back. They ain't bringing sh*t back. It's here -- you looking at it....Buy me...When that Killer Mike drops, hardcore hip-hop will be back for the second, third time. You know, the same guy that said 'rap is dead' three years before Nas said it. I'm here. F*ck with me. Jay dropped 'D.O.A.' and everybody went crazy. And I love Jay. A week before that, I dropped 'Man Up.' Go listen to that song and go listen to 'D.O.A.'" (MTV)

50 recently said his War Angel mixtape would pave the way for hardcore hip-hop's return.

"I think it will change [rappers' direction] when they see the public respond to it in a positive way that'll actually allow them to be creative in different areas again and just do what they want," Fif explained. "It's all by example. When Get Rich Or Die Tryin' came out, everything shifted, because they watching it be the largest debuting album to date. 822,000 copies the first week and then another 800,000 copies the next week, they go, 'Ah man, that's what I wanna do.' And then the other artists start doing their version of 50 Cent, we don't want that but we want them to be able to write their actual story or what they see going on around them." (This Is 50)

Jay explained his motivation behind "Death of Autotune" last month.

"I'm just saying, let's move it forward," Jay said in a phone interview. "The guys who did it, did it great. If you listen to T-Pain, like you know, he does great melodies. You listen to Kanye [West], if you listen to 'Say You Will' or 'Heartbreak,' great melodies. 'Lollipop' was a fantastic melody. Now everybody can't do it, let them guys do it, they got their lil' niche. Now lets move on... My intention was just to draw a line in the sand, 'this is what I do.'" (Miss Info)

Other rappers including Slim Thug have been inspired by Jay's "D.O.A." record.

"I'm really just out there like not giving a f*ck.," Slim explained in an interview. "So it's gonna be hard for me to find a decent single that could actually go on the radio. Sh*t like Jay-Z's "D.O.A" sh*t, I feel him on that. N*ggas is too soft right now. It's all about the girls. It ain't used to be like that. It used to be about everything else, the streets. And that's what it's about with me. I'm just trying to keep that sh*t alive." (Vibe)

Rapper-turned-actor The Game is reportedly in talks to star in the upcoming A-Team remake next summer and could possibly be replacing Common's speculated role in the film.

While details are stills scarce, inside sources have confirmed the casting reports and Game's possible role in the production.

While casting is underway for the big screen adaptation on the long running TV series, "The A-Team," Blackfilm.com has exclusively learned that rapper The Game is being considered for the role of 'B.A Baracus,' which was originated by Mr. T on the television show. Online buzz has it that the role was going to another rapper-turned-actor, Common, but with his recent casting opposite Queen Latifah in Just Wright, he may not finish filming before The A-Team gets rolling in August. Other possible candidates have included Ice Cube and mixed martial arts fighter Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. Interesting enough, both Common and The Game appeared in the same film last year, Street Kings. The Game made his film debut opposite Tyrese Gibson in Waist Deep. (Black Film)

Common previously reacted towards early talks of him staring in the film as ''B.A. Baracus."

"I can't speak on it yet until we know what's going on but that would be an incredible character to play," Common explained in an interview earlier this year. "I can't do the Mohawk but we got to do something, we got to find something to make it work... I would love to [do it], just to work with Joe [Carnahan] is so exciting...You know you need to keep your pace and patience and let things develop... I want it to be as diverse as possible, [but] first of all I don't want to act like I've been given the role of B.A. So let me be honest about that." (IESB)

The film's producers and director were confirmed earlier this year.

The studio has set Joe Carnahan to direct and Ridley Scott to produce, with Tony Scott executive producing through their Scott Free banner. Also producing are Jules Daly and Stephen J. Cannell, the latter of whom created the original TV series. Carnahan will team with Brian Bloom to polish a script by Skip Woods. The intention is to start production by June for a June 11, 2010, release. (Coming Soon)

Aside from his possible role in the re-make, Game was recently selected to star in House Arrest alongside Stacey Dash.

Beautiful cover model/actress Stacey Dash teams up and locks lips with renowned and often controversial rapper The Game to star in House Arrest a "dramedy" as director Billy Washington describes it. High maintenance girl meets quick money scheming man. Up the road and down the hill they go like Jack and Jill facing drama, after drama after drama. Cast includes: Stacey Dash, The Game, Kiera Washington, Red Grant, Bebe Drake, Theron Benymon, Shelli Boone, Cory Bievin and more. (Hip Hop Press)

No further information on the film's status or casting has been announced.

In this week's Pulse Report the streets are buzzing about 50 Cent still believing he's the #1 rapper, Drake enjoying the best week ever, The Game apologizing for G-Uint beef, Mariah Carey playing Eminem, and Soulja Boy going on a racial tirade.

[Editor Note: The views of this column do not necessarily reflect those of SOHH.com]

1. What The __ Is 50 Cent?

Forget the fact that he saw a decline in sales on his last album, Curtis, and he's not the main attraction he once was, 50 cent still thinks he's the #1 rapper in the business. In a recent interview with, Fif wouldn't accept Lil Wayne's overall appeal and the million records that The Cater III sold in a week, as a sign that he's the #1 rapper out today.[Watch Here]

"What does that mean that you sold that? So you gonna forget that I sold 10 million albums twice -12 million first album, 10 million next one. So what does that one million mean?"

"A buzz is a song. So the next song that I release can turn me back into what you feel like is the hottest thing out here. So I mean if I'm showing you full capability of it than what makes you doubt that."

The reason we doubt it is because you ain't showing us jack lately. Yeah, I somewhat agree with you that your pass numbers were quite meaningful, but you know full well that hip-hop is a "what have you done for me lately" genre. Look man, just accept it that Weezy is the #1 dude in the game. Maybe when your next album drops you can reclaim the spot. I highly doubt that will happen, but would love for you to prove me wrong.

2. Breast Week Ever

What a week for Drake. It started out with a torn ACL and an awkward BET Awards performance. Then it got better with a new unprecedented record deal and the debut of a hotly debated video for his hit single "Best I Ever Had". Dreezy's much anticipated deal was rumored to be worth $4 million but Drake denied that in an interview with Complex magazine. He also cleared up any misunderstanding of how the deal breaks down.

"Nah. I definitely want to clear this up, I didn't sign to Universal. I'm actually signed to... a lot of people were telling me, 'Oh, you should do it independent.' I'm actually 100% independent. I signed to Cortez Bryant and G. Roberson, my managers, so I signed a joint venture between Aspire Music Group, which is them, and Young Money. So the only part that Universal plays is P&D [pressing and distribution]. I'm not a Universal artist. I'm signed to myself."

"I have 100% creative control, I own all my masters, everything. I'm blessed to be in that situation."

So now that we have that cleared up, let's talk about Drake's video for "Best I Ever Had". The Kanye West directed visual debuted this week and it was quickly re-dubbed the "Breast I Ever Had" video. The top-heavy vixens in the basketball themed video caused quite a stir for their excessive bouncing around. [Watch Here] Drake had to explain the real meaning behind the video.

"The concept of the video is, I'm a coach at a high school and the girls of my life are all on my high school basketball team. Throughout the video you see us prepping for this big championship game, and my team ends up losing. You see the looks on their faces at the end of the video, but the moral of the story, I guess, is win or lose, you can still be the best to somebody. When women see the video and see all the breast and ass, hopefully they don?t take offense. Hopefully they see the real meaning."

It wasn't all roses for Drake. During his BET Awards performance with Lil Wayne, things got uncomfortable when Wanye's pre-teen daughter and friends joined them on stage during the set for "Every Girl In The World". After outrage from BET viewers, apologies were in order.

"Yeah, it was just timed very poorly and it definitely wasn't planned like that, but with that being said, it is what is. I believe in Wayne and myself and it?s nothing we can't bounce back from. To anyone who was offended, my personal apologies, it wasn't intended to offend anybody."

Kudos to Drake for signing a deal that could change the music industry forever. Two thumbs up on the video. Sorry ladies, this one wasn't for you. Maybe he'll make amends with ya'll on one of his R&B cuts. I blame BET more than Drake and Wayne for the award show fiasco. Why would you allow them to perform that song on a night you're paying tribute to Michael Jackson? I know R. Kelly was sitting at home kicking himself for not attending the show.

3. Mending Fences

The passing of Michael Jackson has impacted us all, but it's apparently made The Game a changed man. Since Jackson's death last Thursday, The Game has recorded a tribute song. "Better On The Otherside," and shot a video for it. [Watch Here]. He's also told a story of how the music icon tried to orchestra a truce in Game's beef with 50 Cent. The volatile rapper also attempted to make peace with 50, promising not clash with his longtime rival anymore.

"Jimmy always says, 'Man, I told you guys not to break up the Beatles. He says he told John Lennon the same thing a long time ago. But I was young, man. I was dumb. I did a lot of dumb things. I felt me and 50 clashed. I'm not gonna dis 50. I'm not gonna go back on the plane. He had his side, I had my side... I can honestly say from Banks to Buck to Dre to Yayo to whoever, if it would have kept going, endless paper. Millions of albums sold because we were great together."

The Game and Drake weren't the only rappers feeling apologetic this week. Jim Jones ended his long standing beef with fellow Harlem rapper Mase. Calling into DJ Self's Power 105 radio show Jones made peace with Mase over the phone.

"What's good Beth, what's poppin'," Jones asked in a phone interview towards Mase. "How you feeling? Hey man, that's what's up, I just wanted to tell you I tip my hat to you. I apologize for everything I did when I was younger. You can get my number from Self and sh*t like that. Pardon my French. Pardon, pardon me it's monumental that's why I'ma get off it. You already know Betha, it's nothing but love. Self's got my number, I'm jumping off the line. I'll holla, Jones."

In the case of Game/50: Why does it always have to take someone dying for brothers to see how minuscule their beefs are? It's nice that The Game and Capo are man enough to admit their wrongs, but these conflict were old news a long time ago. Now that we're at this point of forgiveness, let's get a reunion poppin' during the much anticipated Dr. Dre, Eminem, 50 Cent tour. Can't deny they had hits together.

4.Man Up!

Speak of Eminem, his rift with Mariah Carey continued this week, as Carey seemingly mocked him in her new video. The R&B diva dressed up like a man that resembled Em, for a scene in the video for her single "Obsessed". The video fuels speculation that song was a response to the rapper offensive verse on "Bagpipes Over Baghdad." However, Carey's husband Nick Cannon said otherwise to MTV.com

"I don't think that she would take her time. My wife doesn't beef. She's Mariah Carey. She's not beefin', she's a vegetarian.People keep saying ['Obsessed'] was directed at certain people. To be completely honest, she did the record 'cause she's a huge fan of this movie 'Mean Girls,' and there's a line in the movie where one of the girls is like, 'Why are you so obsessed with me?' She says that at the beginning of the song, and that's where the concept came from. But you know, art imitates life. I always say I thought the record was about me, 'cause I'm obsessed with my wife. But if somebody's out there and you feel like you might have been obsessed, then the record's about you."

*O-Dog voice* You know what n*gga you acting like a real b*tch right now. This fool disrespected your wife, and you ain't gon' do sh*t? You up here acting like she ain't going at him. Man, forget that! Don't let that sh*t ride. Handle your business like a man, goddamnit!

5. Hanging It Up?

Soulja Boy had a serious Twitter melt down this week. Someone upset the teeny-booper rapper and he took to Twitter to make some really juvenile racist remarks. He even threatened to quit rap.

"Water down my music and my appearance and make me look like and make me look like something I'm not. THESE CRACKERS DON'T KNOW WHO THE F*CK I REALLY AM!!!?

"Then I get signed. This is where my dream slowly died..these crackaz[sic] wanna critcize[sic] a n*gga. Take REAL SHIT and turn it to trash."

"Like why? Like really. My music dream was THE SH*T 2 years ago before I was signed. It was everything I could ever imagine."

"Yeah I said. Fuck all of yall. I'm taking my money and leaving. Gonna go blow kush and live my 2nd drea,. This rap sh*t is lame now."

At ease Soulja. You trippin lil' homie. Don't you realize them cracker ass crackers is the reason you sell as many records as you do. Who you think gobbles up you're ringtones at a record pace? You better straighten up young fella, and stop biting the hand that feeds you. Plus you better not be standing on ledge talking that quitting rap mess, I know a few people that will push you off that ledge.

Grand Hustle's Young Dro recently spoke on his forthcoming P.O.L.O. album and aim to step up his Hollywood acting game.

Aside from taking the cue from T.I.'s recent acting success, Dro announced the launch of his new site, DroSpeaks.com.

"Young Dro, you already know man," Dro said in a video. "In the studio man, putting finishing touches on sh*t. Stay in tune, dealing with all my fans to let 'em know P.O.L.O. on the way and don't even get it twisted. Players Only Live Once. Check in with your partner man, it's gon' be real big, you know what I'm saying? Got hot tracks on there, we coming to LA to shoot videos and all that man, holla at my peoples over there, Travis Barker. Sh*t like that going on, trying to go to MGM and do sh*t like that, do movies. I mean, so tune in every week, it's your boy Young Dro, P.O.L.O. the album, you gotta know to get that man. You gotta know your boy gonna be on fire like a motherf*cker shorty. And tell all them haters out there, keep on hatin' man. You either gonna die from it or live to it." (Dro Speaks)

Despite being nearly three years since his Best Thang Smokin' debut, the rapper said his sophomore project is in the books.

"Yeah, we finished with the album, the finishing touches are there," he said in an interview last month. "'Take Off' was the single, it was like a little buzz to get everything back in motion. We got these next two songs we finna work. We finna work two more songs. One is called, 'On Fire,' that T.I. co-produced and Jim Jonsin. The next single is called 'In the Club,' that Jim Jonsin also produced, which only has me on it. We gonna work on both of these. They both hot, like they out of this world records. So, it?s how I feel it. We back in the ballgame." (Vibe)

Both Tip and Dro reportedly came up together and left the streets for rap careers.

Atlanta rapper and T.I. protege Young Dro decided to pursue a career in rap music in order to break the cycle of tribulations from hustling and inner-city life. Although he had known T.I. since the early '90s, they grew apart for some time. By early 2006, Young Dro was signed to T.I.'s imprint, Grand Hustle Entertainment. (Billboard)

The upcoming album will follow-up his 2006 debut.

Backed by the self-proclaimed "King of the South" T.I. and major label Atlantic Records, Young Dro hit the ground running with the popular single "Shoulder Lean" in summer 2006. It had heavy rotation on BET and MTV2, and its cellular phone ringtone sold over 500,000 units. The hit single is featured on his major-label debut, Best Thang Smokin', released in late August 2006. (All Music)

A confirmed release date for P.O.L.O. has not yet been announced.

Music pioneer Michael Jackson's public memorial will take place next week in California with Jackson family spokespersons to address attenders.

The memorial will be open to the public but will be restricted to ticket-only entrances.

A free public memorial for Michael Jackson will be held Tuesday (July 7) at 10 a.m. PT at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. There will be 11,000 tickets distributed to the general public. PR firm Sunshine Sachs & Associates, hired to speak on behalf of the family, will hold a press briefing Friday (July 3) morning at 10 a.m. PT to announce details on how the public can register for tickets. (USA Today)

Despite early claims of the singer passing away from drug abuse, Alderac Entertainment Group (AEG) CEO Randy Phillips recently denied these claims.

"[A doctor] examined Michael for about five hours at his house and then went somewhere for some other tests," Phillips said in an interview. "The insurance broker told us that he passed with 'flying colors' and that the only issue was with some slight hay fever." (CNN)

OK! Magazine's recent "tribute" issue, which featured him allegedly dead upon being rushed to the hospital, reportedly struck cords with both Jay-Z and Diddy.

Our well-placed source says some staffers objected to owner Richard Desmond's decision to put the ghoulish picture on this week's cover -- and it looks like advertisers and readers may agree. The source told us, "Media buyers have canceled upcoming meetings to discuss rates. It's a disgrace. They've sunk to a new low." In addition, Sean Combs and Jay-Z are said to be so furious, "they're organizing a boycott," according to our source. A rep for OK! said, "This is untrue. No one at OK! has been contacted about any such cancellations as a result of the magazine's coverage of this news event. Any pages booked by the advertising team are running as scheduled." Combs' rep echoed, "Not true." Jay-Z's rep didn't return calls. (New York Post)

In light of his passing, rappers and fans alike praised the singer's legacy and helped him shatter record sales.

The King of Pop's Number Ones will fittingly lead the pack at No. 1 with 108,000 (an increase of 2,340%) while The Essential Michael Jackson and Thriller are in the Nos. 2 and 3 slots with 102,000 and 101,000, respectively. Additionally, his classic 1979 studio set Off the Wall re-enters at No. 4 with 33,000 while his 1987 album Bad returns at No. 6 with 17,000. At No. 5, the Jackson 5's The Ultimate Collection debuts with 18,000. Jackson's fourth studio album for Epic Records, 1991's Dangerous, re-enters at No. 7 with 14,000 while his 2001 compilation Greatest Hits: HIStory -- Volume 1 also comes back to the list at No. 8 with 12,000. Finally, Jackson's 2004 box set The Ultimate Collection charts its first week on the Pop Catalog chart, arriving at No. 9 with 11,000. (Billboard)
