An actor from the HBO hit series "The Wire" was stabbed during a brawl at a party in Baltimore early Sunday (Mar. 23).
According to the Baltimore Sun, Christopher J. Clanton - who played Savino Bratton, a recurring character on "The Wire" - was knifed in the right side of his torso and buttock, before being rushed to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in an ambulance.
As of yesterday morning, the 22 year-old said he was in good condition and expected to be released later today or tomorrow.
When asked how the fight started Clanton explained that he was just trying to get out of the way of two other men fighting. "I was trying to get out of the way. I wanted to get past one of the guys that was involved. It escalated from there."
At least 30 people were at the party held at Overlea caterers on Belair Road, but Clanton was the only one who reported injuries.
The actor was also an extra on the 2000 HBO miniseries, "The Corner," another project from "Wire" creator David Simon. He studied acting at Center Stage and with the Rising Stars Theater Troupe, according to his profile on the Internet Movie Database, but his art imitated life in 2006 when the actor was busted on drug charges.
He received a five-year sentence, with four years suspended, and was subsequently placed on three years of supervised probation.
"All of that is behind me. I'm actually moving forward," said the father of a 5-year-old daughter. Clanton said he recently started his own production company, Never Enough Entertainment.
