This week marks the fifth anniversary of the death of TLC group member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes.
The group's resident rapper will be remembered in the VH1 documentary Last Days of Left Eye. Left Eye died on April 25, 2002 in a car crash in Central America.
Last Days of Left Eye tells the story of her life in her very own words via unreleased home videos, photos and ironically, from archival footage commissioned by the singer herself of the last 30 days of her life.
The footage of Left Eye in Honduras documents almost up to the exact moment of the car accident, in which she was killed. She was driving an SUV with six other people when she lost control of the vehicle and ultimately became the only casualty.
Left Eye, who would have turned 36 on May 27, was in Honduras on a 30 day retreat after Arista Records declined to release her solo LP, Supernova. It was believed that Honduras would be the perfect refuge where she could reflect.
"Last Days of Left Eye" debuts on VH1 and VH1 Soul on May 19 at 9 p.m.EST.
