According to Martinez, the ability to appear in different markets at Power 105.1 fueled the jump.

“It’s what I wanted,” she says. “It just got to the point where I wanted to be on in different markets — I want to grow and be challenged in new ways.” Well, Martinez will certainly be challenged; starting in mid-July, she’ll not only host the 3-to-7 p.m. shift at Power 105, she’ll also do an earlier, live four-hour shift for Miami’s The Beat (103.5) — which, like Power 105, is owned by Clear Channel. “It’s not going to be the same show — I’ll do a show just for Miami and a show just for New York.” (NY Post)

A few days ago, Angie detailed the emotional ride she experienced since breaking the news.

“People keep texting me like this is such a big deal and keep forwarding me links to things,” she says, surprised by the hoopla since the announcement. “I’ve really tried to keep a quiet mind about it. I’m trying not to read too much of the comments on social media or too much stuff about it in general. It’s emotional enough for me, and I just want to look forward and not get too wrapped up in the noise.” (Billboard)

Buzz about Angie having her own radio show at Power 105.1 surfaced online last Thursday (June 19).

On Thursday morning (June 19), Clear Channel announced that Martinez would be joining the team at rival radio station Power 105. 1, in addition to airing on 103.5 The Beat in Miami. She’s set to host a new afternoon show, running fro 2 – 6 p.m in New York. Power 105 and Hot 97 have been fierce competitors in recent years, so the move is definitely unexpected. (MTV)

Martinez broke the Hot 97 exit news to her Instagram followers a day prior.

“Today I resigned from HOT97. I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life. We made history together in so many ways and I will cherish those memories and my friendships forever. This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways.” (Angie Martinez’s Instagram)
