OutKast's Andre 3000 has reportedly lost his father this week in Atlanta, months after his mother lost her life.
Reports of Three Stacks’ family loss hit the Internet on Thursday (February 13).
The father of Andre “3000” Benjamin has died. A spokesperson for the band confirmed that the Outkast singer’s father, Lawrence Walker, passed away on Wednesday. No other information was made available, but according to the Straight from the A blog, Walker died of an apparent heart attack after chopping wood for his fireplace outside his Atlanta home. Confirmation on the platinum-selling rapper losing his mother surfaced online back in May.
Andre “3000” Benjamin’s mother Sharon Benjamin-Hodo has passed away, a representative for the musician and actor confirms to Billboard. Benjamin-Hodo was the founder and guiding force of The Starlight Camp for underprivileged children, which she ran out of the New Morning Light Missionary Baptist Church in Conley, GA — the church of her husband, Pastor Robert Hodo. In lieu of flowers, continued support of The Starlight Camp is appreciated by the family, Benjamin’s spokesperson notes. (Billboard)
Following the shocking news, producer Jermaine Dupri shared a few thoughts on Three Stacks losing his mother.
“My condolences go out to Dre,and the entire Benjamin-Hodo family,” JD tweeted May 29th. (Jermaine Dupri’s Twitter)
Much like Dupri, fellow producer 9th Wonder sent his best wishes to Andre’s family.
“Pray for the good brother Andre 3000 and his family…” (9th Wonder’s Twitter)
