Konvict labelhead Akon and the Black Eyed Peas have been chosen to co-headline next month’s Virgin Music Festival in Canada.
The urban entertainers will be joined alongside other popular music acts.
Headlining day one will be the Grammy Award-winning Black Eyed Peas, the MMVA and Juno Award-winning Simple Plan, Canadian rockers Hedley, pop specialists The New Cities and soul infusion-ist Eva Avila. Headlining day two will be legendary pop group New Kids On The Block, multi-platinum pop soulsinger Akon, alt-rock legends Live, up-and-coming electro singer/songwriter Lights and R&B songstress Divine Brown. More stellar talent will be announced in the coming weeks. (Newswire)
For its fourth annual summer run, the festival will kick-off in select Canadian cities.
The festival, which launched in 2006, is sponsored by Virgin Mobile Canada, which was fully acquired by Canadian telecommunications giant Bell Canada today. Event organizers didn’t disclose which cities the festival would be hitting, naming only Ontario, Quebec, British Columbia, Alberta and Nova Scotia. Host locations will be announced at a later date. Virgin Festival director Andrew Bridge expressed his anticipation for the upcoming events.
“We’re taking a bit of gamble going out and doing five festivals, but we’re confident that we’re delivering a smart ticket price with amazing talent and a great experience for festival-goers,” Bridge said in a statement. “We tailor the lineups [for] each market. The festival in Montreal is a bit of a pop event. You’ll see variances in the talent in different markets. You’ll see different styles in the different cities.” (Canadian Press)
