Days after Miami Heat player Dwyane Wade proposed to longtime girlfriend Gabrielle Union, the NBA star has now confessed to having a secret one-month-old child.
After mounted pressure and speculation, D-Wade cleared the air on the baby gossip.
“I’m in the public eye, so obviously that’s a part of it. It comes with the territory. But, it’s kind of … as I’ve always done my whole life … is always focus on what’s most important to me and my family, and that’s being a great father. I’ve always tried to show my importance in my kids’ lives and it doesn’t change now. So, me and my lady and my family have continued to move forward and I think that’s evident with the ring and the proposal that I gave her with our lives. But, yeah, I had a time a part in our break, in our pain and our hurt, a blessing came out of it in my life, having a son that was born healthy. So, I’m moving on.” (Miami Herald)
Despite being engaged to Union, Wade promised to be a good father to his son.
“Yeah, I’ve got a chance to see him. You know me. I’m involved in my kids’ lives. When my kids were living at home with me, or wasn’t living at home with me, I tried to do everything I could to see them. Obviously I got custody of them for different reasons, but nothing changes with my life. Like I’ve said, this is something that my family knows and my now fiancée worked through when we got back together, and understood that we wanted to continue our lives together and continue supporting our family and we’re going to do that. NBA star Dwyane Wade recently spent time with his new baby boy he fathered with a woman while on a break with now-fiancée Gabrielle Union, a source close to the couple tells ET. Wade, 31, and Union, 41, who were officially engaged last week, have worked through the issue privately as a couple, and the Bring It On star was aware of the child before their engagement. Wade has known the mother of his youngest son “for many years.” The long-time couple, who have been dating since 2009, are still very much committed to spending their lives together, and according to the Miami Heat star last week, a September wedding is likely. “She said YES!!!” That was the tweet that NBA star Dwyane Wade used Saturday to announce his engagement to actress Gabrielle Union. Wade made the announcement via Twitter and Instagram, posting a photo of the stunning solitaire diamond. Wade, 31, a guard with the Miami Heat, and the 41-year-old Union have been dating several years. Among Wade’s many accomplishments, according to his website, are winning a gold medal in the 2008 Olympics, being named one of People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People and earning back-to-back NBA championship rings — in 2012 and 2013.
