A$AP Mob’s A$AP Rocky recently reflected on dicey remarks he made about Roc Nation princess Rita Ora on his A.L.L.A. album.
Although apologetic for the rhymes’ harshness, Rocky still stood behind his explicit lines.
“The Rita thing was tasteless of me,” he admits today. “[But] I’ve got to stand by it, because I did it. I said it.” Still, it remains beyond him why people care about it: “Who gives a fuck about who I’m f*cking? Nobody really cares. It’s fun to hear, but who really gives a f*ck about who Rita Ora’s f*cking?” (The Guardian)
Despite generating a ton of attention, Rocky said he wished the hype would die down in a May interview.
“People are joking on her. The joke is already a ha ha with the lyrics. Leave it alone. No big deal ’cause in all reality, she’s not the only pop singer getting jizzed on. That’s life. I don’t kiss and tell. I’m not the first rap guy she’s been with and she’s not the first pop broad. This is so long ago. We didn’t date, we didn’t never.” (Hot 97)
Although quick and to the point, Rocky suggested his issues with Rita stemmed from a past incident in a separate interview.
“I just want to clarify, this isn’t me saying, people don’t go listen to Rita Ora, or she’s an ugly person or nothing. I’m not saying she’s a terrible person, I’m just saying that when I was in a relationship and I did things with her that I wasn’t supposed to do, she had a big mouth.” (BBC UK)
Rocky’s lyrics sparked some controversy for name-dropping Rita on “Better Things.”
