Despite choices like Wesley Snipes as “Nino Brown” in 1990’s cult classic New Jack City or Johnny Depp‘s depiction of “George Jung” from 2001’s Blow, 50 and one of his Righteous Kill co-stars made an obvious choice.

In their new drama “Twelve,” out this weekend, Chace Crawford and 50 Cent both play New York City drug dealers. The two duo had plenty of inspiration to fuel their own work in the film. Al Pacino‘s legendary performance as Tony Montana in “Scarface” was cited by several of the “Twelve” castmembers — including Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Billy Magnussen — as a favorite. But Rory Culkin called out his co-stars for making such an obvious choice. “Movie drug dealer? Everyone’s gonna say ‘Scarface!’ ” he said. ” ‘The Wackness’s Josh Peck was a pretty badass little pot dealer. I dug it.” (MTV)

50 recently appeared on “The View” to discuss the mindset he had to dig into for his role as a drug dealer in Twelve.

“It’s a totally different experience for me because I’ve been away from that for a very long time,” 50 Cent said in an interview on “The View.” “In this actual project, the character’s actually darker. I’ve never done anything with those motivations. There’s a scene in the actual film where he’s excited to trade the drugs for a woman’s virginity. That’s darker than anything I’ve experienced…Well, I mean just my motivation. I didn’t come there to actually hurt anyone. It was just what the environment provided for me without any requirements…Like they don’t say, ‘You need a master’s [degree] to be a drug dealer.’ Everyone’s eligible. You have two hands [and] two feet… Run, the cops are coming.” (The Boom Box)

Details on the film’s overall plot show 50 playing the back-up to actor Chace Crawford.

Do rich kids and drugs go together like peas and carrots? According to movies like “Cruel Intentions,” “Black and White” and the upcoming “Twelve” thriller, starring Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, they most definitely do. In Joel Schumacher‘s latest film, “Twelve,” high-school dropout White Mike (Chace Crawford) sells drugs to his wealthy former classmates. When White Mike’s cousin is brutally murdered in an east Harlem project, he quickly finds himself on a collision course with his own destiny. (Tr3s News)

50 and Pacino last worked together on their 2008 movie, Righteous Kill.

According to Hollywood Reporter 50 is in “final negotiations” to co-star. If all contractual agreements run smoothly, 50 will portray a drug dealer who aids Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino — detectives who are working to track down a serial killer — in finding their wanted person. (Cinematical)
