Originally slated to drop around December 2008, Fif spoke on how the project would now carry a new sound upon its release.

“It’s about 30 percent of what I had when I felt I was finished,” Fif explained in an interview regarding the saved material. “The production [changed.] A lot of it [Dr.] Dre made a lot more of the music that’s on the actual album and I re-wrote some concepts ’cause to me sometimes, it would sound like I’m absolutely out my mind if I play you the music but it gets dated because I’ve been playing it to myself for so long that I’m no longer as excited as I was for the first time, so I’m making new material and adding it to the actual project. I’ve been conceptually doing some things that directly apply to the initial concept of Before I Self Destruct and I wrote, produced and directed my first screen play. It’ll actually be in the album packaging.” (MTV)

Fif previously said his album would drop this month following Eminem‘s long-awaited release.

“My album Before I Self Destruct will be out in May,” he said in an interview earlier this year. “My record kinda got moved back because Eminem’s record will be coming out before me because Dre will have completed his project before I can get Dre to finish the pieces I need to complete my project.” (ABC Now)

He also discussed the reasons behind his fourth album’s last delay, citing his role as an artist compared to his Shady Records boss.

“Right now I’m on the train and the Em choo choo car goes first,” Fif said in an interview. “See what happens is I think that people forget that I’m actually Eminem’s artist because I’ve had so much success on my own and I moved away from it.” (Associated Press)

Accompanying Fif’s deluxe edition, aside from the self-titled movie, will be a bonus DVD called Two Turntables and a Microphone: The Life and Death of Jam Master Jay.

“Times are hard,” 50 said in a statement. “Everyone is trying to make the most of what they have. I want to give my fans something extra for their hard earned dollars. They’ll get a free bonus when the pick up the album.” Focusing on 50’s late mentor and friend, Run DMC‘s Jam Master Jay, the 85-minute disc will include appearances from Reverend Run, Russell Simmons, Jay-Z and more.
