While he is not planning to retire, 50 said he sees himself playing more of a music executive role.

“I don’t think I’ll retire – I think you should look forward to me going behind the scenes more, I still have passion for music,” he said in an interview. “The music business itself has changed. If you can’t figure out how to develop the brand extension and opportunities that allow you to build up the marketing dollar, I don’t see how you can continue to be a superstar.” (The Independent)

Prior to losing his publicized SoundScan battle against Kanye West in 2007, 50 told SOHH he would retire if Ye’s Graduation out-sold his Curtis project.

“They would like to see Kanye West give me a problem because I’ve worked my way into a space where I’ve become the favorite. Everybody roots for the underdog when he goes against the favorite, put it like this, let’s raise the stakes. If Kanye West sells more records than 50 Cent on September 11th, I will no longer write music. I’ll write music and work with my other artists, but I won’t put out any more solo albums. And I bet when Kanye West’s sales come in, he’s gonna have a 70 percent decrease because Def Jam is gonna buy records to keep him close to 50 Cent. So watch the first week and watch the second week and watch his a** fall off the planet.” (SOHH)

50 recently announced plans to begin work on a new album called Black Magic.

“I actually recorded three songs,” Fif revealed to interviewer Jonas Pettersen. “I had this idea, I went to a nightclub, afterparty, and it was a different kind of music going on there a little while before I actually got there. You know they play your music when you come, but the music they played before, they started playing material I created, which was more uptempo, more dance…Black Magic project, I’m excited about it. It has a different vibe, I won’t allow myself to be placed in a box where I can only do one style or do one kind of music…If they can understand how I enjoy different genres of music, for the people who have various tastes, they’ll really like it.” (Most Hated TV 81)

His last project, Before I Self Destruct, reached gold status last January.

50 Cent has another Gold certified album on his hands. The rapper’s 2009 effort “Before I Self Destruct” was recently certified Gold by the RIAA due to sales in excess of 500,000 copies. Led by the single “Baby By Me,” 50 Cent’s “Before I Self Destruct” closed out a strong decade of hit albums and singles for him. (Examiner)
