According to 50, Minaj has an undeniable amount of talent in a music genre dominated by males.

“She’s the only female around, period,” Fif said. “She has a lane that’s been closed that she just busted open on her own, and she’s an amazing talent. A lot of artists, I personally am not excited by, but her, particularly, she impressed me on that ‘Bottoms Up’ remix,” he added, referring to Trey Songz‘s smash, one of a number of memorable Nicki cameos this year. Despite 50’s proclamation, rap veteran Rah Digga recently spoke with SOHH about the perception people have of the shortage of lady emcees in hip-hop.

“There’s definitely a range of females who are doing things, but the only thing that really bothers me is when people say there are no females and that’s not true,” Digga explained to SOHH. “There are tons of females out there rapping. Everyone seems to look to the glamourous side of the females rapping but I think the media can control what females get exposure and things of that nature and they just don’t. Everybody complains about why aren’t there any females and why aren’t they getting exposure, but it’s because the media isn’t giving it to them. Simple and plain. It’s not rocket science. You know, pick one.” (SOHH)

Over the summer, G-Unit’s Tony Yayo said there was once a time when Minaj could have been under 50’s wing.

“We could of signed Nicki Minaj,” Yayo revealed in an interview. “It was just [a matter of] time and opportunity. We could of signed Keyshia Cole too, I was locked up [during] that — she does represent South Side Jamaica Queens, Nicki Minaj. She came up with a down South artist because she was managed by Waka‘s moms, right? I never crossed paths with her. Yeah [she should be with G-Unit], she’s from South Side Jamaica Queens, h*ll yeah, she should be the with Unit. That should be her swag from South Side Jamaica Queens, a bulletproof vest on Nicki Minaj. [laughs] That’ll look great.” (XXL Mag)

The Unit’s Lloyd Banks recently compared the similarities between Minaj and Lil Kim.

“[Laughs] Sheesh. I would go with Nicki right now,” he said in an interview. “Yeah, I like her as an artist. We came up in the same era, we were around the same age so I’m pretty sure one of her influences was probably Lil Kim and nothing is really reminding of the impact Kim had, since Nicki came. To have a concert and have a hundred Nickies in the front row… not too many new artists come and have a following like that. So you definitely have to acknowledge that.” (VIBE)
