G-Unit head 50 Cent recently talked about the music industry and how album sales aren't as meaningful as they once were.

Despite selling millions throughout his career, Curtis Jackson said he no longer focused on selling millions of units.

“You know what you gotta do to sell a million records now? My first album sold 13 million records,” 50 said in an interview. “If the chart mattered now, I’d quit. Now, compared to that period, you can forget about it. The album to sell the worst was the Curtis record, and [Eminem] just sold [for The Marshall Mathers LP 2] what I sold the first week on that album. It’s getting smaller and smaller as we go, but no one’s lost interest in great music.” (Billboard)

50 did not hold back in this interview…

Back in June, 50 talked about his Animal Ambition solo album not having the same record sales success as his 2003 studio debut.

“I know I can’t actually have the success I’ve had in the past,” 50 said in an interview. “It’s impossible. [Animal Ambition?] This is the warm up. I put this record out to cut through the cloud of my audiences mind, success. Some people are not conditioned or prepared for success. And it’s an adjustment.” (Hot 93.7)

The New York rap star also discussed changing his state of mind with the music.

“If you leave the environment thinking the exact same way you were in the environment chances are you won’t be successful. You have to make some adjustments as you actually go. Inquiring new information. Being exposed to different situations is what allows me to continue to do it, but if you don’t do it you’ll forget about it.” (Hot 93.7)

Curtis Jackson announced an upcoming The Beast Is G-Unit compilation coming together a few weeks ago.

“The Beauty is six joints. We recorded, like, thirty-eight,” Fif revealed in an interview with G-Unit. “It’s broken into two pieces. So, The Beauty is the first half. The Beauty of Independence and then The Beast Is G-Unit is the second half.” (“Los Angeles Leakers”)

  1. Now he talking numbers, you killed your own music careers and others….50cent is what ur album worth

    • Please find nearest wall and bash your head into it for giving me a headache trying to figure out what the hell you are saying.

      • Oh hoe ass nigga did u read article or went straight to comment bitch ass sucker ass niggas

        • NOW he’s not talking numbers that’s the whole point of the article you dumb fuck!!! 50 Cent the one who always talked about numbers is not talking about them anymore because he says they don’t matter!!! Keep liking your own comments fucking loser… Oh hoe ass nigga!!! do you really talk like that i thought it was Ol’ not oh.. and drop the e in hoe thats a fucking gardening tool… Ol’ clown ass nigga!!!!

  2. I am sure 50 stans will find some twisted way to defend him. Here’s what 50 doesn’t get: record sales never mattered. I don’t need record sales to tell me that Rakim is a much better rapper than you.

    • i feel u and no disrespect to your thought but…..fifty had to rely on the numbers because of a behind close door battle….ja and others never wanted him to happen and that plain was working so well that the only one that was built to with stand the back lash was em….em has fans and no matter what radio says he sells…no matter how much they wont play him on urban radio he still defeats the odds ….so fifty exploiting / blowwing up the numbers was saying f-u to the haters….in the part the rest was just what happens when an untrained un humble person makes it….Google M jordan hall of fame speech he came out swinging….now also keep in mind he was never suppose to be this big with his limited ability as a artist…a lott of his success came from trend suffers….Like gucci and two chains some how some way they both made it and got cosigns but they wack on a rakim level..
Sidenote : the Music is all that matters

    • Not for all rappers. You can’t compare Rakim to 50 cause those are 2 totally different rappers. If you’re first album sell 13 million copies people have different expectations from you then other rappers who don’t sell that much. Just like 50 says he can’t make music like Drake does cause people won’t accept that from him. For some it matter for it don’t.

  3. That animal ambition joint rocked i dont care what anyone say. I wonder what the numbers look like now though cause i hear it bumpin in niggaz whips now more than when it first came out. Before u would hear smoke the single in a nigga ride but now niggaz is riding pass with hold on and funeral thumpin so i assume that niggaz been coppin the joint

  4. Straight to the point; To be Bobby then you gotta be Bobby now” / Eyes & Teeth falling from contention.

  5. It’s amazing how niggaz still haven’t caught up to what he’s actually laying out for you…smfh Queens niggaz be on some sabermetrics when it comes to this thing called Hip Hop lol this nigga is laughing at you cornballs…

  6. He should quit. That was his advice he gave when other artist wasn’t selling and he was.

  7. Lol is all there is to do now at the excuses. Drake Kanye or Jay could drop tomorrow and sell millions. This nigga just sux. Without Dre or Em this nigga is nothing. Facts

    • Kanye & them didn’t sell millions. Check RIAA certification bro.

There’s a reason Jay partnered with Samsung for his last release.

There’s also a reason Dre hasn’t dropped “Detox”. It’s because records don’t sell like that anymore.

If records did sell then Iggy Azalea would have sold millions because she’s the artist all over radio & t.v.

And she ain’t even sold 500,000 albums!

  8. 50 IS FULL OF SHIT!!!! POINT BLANK!!! I BOUGHT ALL OF HIS ALBUMS BUT YOU CAN’T SPEND THE BEGINNING OF YOUR CAREER SELLING 10 MILLION ALBUMS YOUR 1ST 2 CD’S OUT & USING THAT TO SHIT ON EVERY RAPPER INCLUDING JAY & NOW THAT YOU CAN’T SELL 50,000 COPIES THE 1ST WEEK OUT, SUDDENLY THE NUMBERS DON’T MATTER!!!! IT’S ALWAYS BEEN ABOUT THE MUSIC NOT THE SALES ANYWAY….AT 1 POINT MC HAMMER & VANILLA ICE SOLD MORE THAN LL COOL J, BIG DADDY KANE, RAKIM ETC. THEY WERE NEVER EVER CONSIDERED THE BEST!!!!
