50 Cent Doesn’t Envision Award For Weight-Loss Movie Role, “It Would Be A Surprise [To Win]”

Actor/Rapper 50 Cent recently talked about his weight-loss for the upcoming Things Fall Apart movie and if he could see himself being recognized for his dedication to portray a cancer victim.

From Fif’s perspective, he would be surprised to win an acting award despite forcing himself to lose over 50 pounds for the role.

He said he doesn’t anticipate winning awards for his acting role. “Well, you know, I haven’t received accolades that comes with the success that I’ve had in music,” he said. “It would be a surprise” to win any acting awards, he said, noting that it’s already a reward to have people aware of the role. 50 said he did his background research on weight-loss from the Internet.

“Yeah, it was a lot for me to actually get there. After the second week, it was crazy. They say it takes 30 days to make a habit, but man… I was on the Internet and I was looking at Christian Bale, while The Machinist was out, he almost killed himself. I was feeling like maybe I’m overdoing it and I’m dropping 54 pounds, but I was in such a good physical state prior to me deciding to go down on the weight.” (Rap-Up)

G-Unit‘s Tony Yayo recently said 50 was determined to shed pounds for his flick.

The MC is apparently taking his bulking up seriously, ordering a “cheeseburger all the way” and French fries in a restaurant where he stopped for lunch, according to the paper. “He was a real gentleman,” the manager said. G-Unit’s Tony Yayo told MTV News earlier this month that he admires his boss’ resolve when it comes to acting. “50 doesn’t party, he doesn’t drink. For his new film, the guy was, like, 130 pounds,” Yayo said. “He was running from the airport to the hotel. And I was like, ‘Man, he has the three D’s: desire, determination and [direction].'” (MTV)

50 said his discipline was inspired by a friend who experienced cancer.

“[Things Fall Apart] is about a Heisman hopeful who could possibly be going to the league and everyone is assuming he’s gonna make it and then he’s hit with an illness,” 50 explained in an interview. “I had a friend of mine who actually experienced cancer and it’s what motivated me to write this screenplay. You don’t have to make everything personal, but that project was. That’s why I committed to playing a role where I lost 54 pounds. I had to discipline myself enough until I achieved it but… I got it. A release date for the film has not yet been revealed.
