According to reports, Curtis Jackson is going to try his luck with G-Unit Records through an independent gamble.

50 Cent is leaving Interscope, the Universal-backed label that launched him into superstardom, and will take his G-Unit Records independent. The Queens-born rapper has signed a worldwide distribution agreement with Caroline/Capitol/UMG, paving the way for the release of new album Animal Ambition on June 3rd. The deal, announced through a press release from the label, marks the end of a period of uncertainty over when and where 50 Cent would drop his follow-up to 2009?s Before I Self Destruct, his most recent studio album. Despite clashes over the composition and timing of the new record over the past few years, Interscope had only kind words for him today. (Forbes)

Shady Records head Eminem has already issued a statement on Fif’s unexpected power move.

“Both myself and Shady Records are grateful to have had the chance to play a part in 50?s career,” he said in the statement. “Shady simply would not be what it is without 50 Cent. I’ve developed a great friendship with 50 over the years, and that’s not going to change. We know 50 will have success in his new situation, and we remain supporters of both him and G-Unit.” (Forbes)

Despite mounted anticipation for the delayed Street King Immortal, Fif recently said his priority was releasing the underground Animal Ambition project.

“There’s an album I am putting out before Street King Immortal. The title is called Animal Ambition. It’s an untamed desire to win. The record is overall about prosperity, ambition, and has an entrepreneurial energy–it’s all from a distorted perspective. I just been really excited about the concept, been writing and had a lot of time to create material for the release because it’s taken so long.” (Complex)

In December, Curtis Jackson said the studio album would be preceded by a separate project.

But what about his long-coming album, “Street King Immortal”? Unfortunately, there is no word on the album release yet, but Jackson said he plans to put out a full body of work in January. While he did not label it as an album, he stated that it was more than a mixtape, and that it includes all original material. As to the sound of the release, he said he was “inspired in a whole other direction.” (Huffington Post)
