1. Taking E
There’s no other artist in the world like Weeknd, unless you want to throw The-Dream into the conversation, and one thing about him is the fact that unlike “weekend”, there’s no “e” in his name. That’s probably one of the most frustrating things to get over, mostly because you’re not used to seeing “weekend” without the third “e” but most importantly because we don’t have any idea why it’s not there. Well, now we do. MTV is on it:
“I left home when I was about 17 dropped out of high school and convinced Lamar to do the same lol,” he said in answer to a query, referring to a member of his XO crew. “We grabbed our mattresses from our parents threw it in our friends shitty van and left one weekend and never came back home. It was gonna be the title of HOB [House of Balloons]. I hated my name at the time though so I tried it as a stage name. It sounded cool. I took out the “e” because there was already a Canadian band named the weekend (copyright issues).” (MTV)
It could all be so simple and it was. Pretty interesting to see how he managed to get his name. It seems over the past few months Weeknd has started to come more and more out of his shell. Glad to have some clarity behind his music alias. #SOHHWhatchaThink?
2. It’s A Jungle Out There
Even though Jungle never managed to receive the same amount of fame or notoriety as his brother Nas, he’s always been a prominent person in the rapper’s life. From appearing on albums to just being a strong presence in public with Nas, Jungle’s no one to be messed with. Miss Info TV has the scoop on some inside Nas goods as told by Jungle:
There’s nothing like when family embarrasses you on your birthday. Even if you are one of rap’s most celebrated artists. Our guy Nas is the latest victim of TMI from the fam. This past Thursday, we caught up with Nas’ brother Jungle at his 40th B-Day celebration, hosted by Hennessy. He gave us a great story about one particular birthday party where Nas definitely hit the Henny a little too hard. Thankfully, his blood brother was there to save the day. Also, Jungle breaks down why “Oochie Wally” will always be a bonafide classic. Do you think Miss Info agrees? (Miss Info TV)
Can you believe Nas is only 40? It feels like he’s been in the rap game for at least 40 years alone, but that’s what happens when you release a classic album that you put together as a teenager. Glad to see Jungle and Nas are still a strong pair. #SOHHWhatchaThink?
3. Whip My Hair
Are Beyoncé fans going too hard these days? That might be the case if you think about all of the issues Bey has had in recent memory, most notably the fan who spanked her during a concert. Well, things haven’t gotten any easier for Queen Bey. TMZ is on it:
Beyonce may be loved a little too much in Brazil … a crazed fan pulled her off the stage during a concert Sunday night.
Miss Z was singing “Irreplaceable” when she started glad-handing people in the audience … one dude got way too carried away.
It’s like she took a college course in concert recovery … Beyonce got back on her feet and killed it. She even told the dude who almost jacked her concert, “Nice to meet you … I love you, too.”
We’re impressed. (TMZ)
Pretty cool move, Beyoncé. That might rank up there with her having her hair get caught in a fan. It’s great to see Bey is still going out and performing, no matter the consequences. #SOHHWhatchaThink?
