Rick Ross & Celebs React To Bey’s Surprise LP, Pop Star Disses KimYe’s ‘Bound 2′, Baby Still Got Back?
Freedom Friday. It’s almost freedom from the workplace and school, so what better way to get the weekend started than peeping artists like Rick Ross reacting to Beyoncé’s surprise new LP release? Speaking of surprises, did anyone see Katy Perry taking a shot at Kanye West and Kim Kardashian? Kim has one asset that needs to be discussed by none other than Sir Mix-A-Lot. All this coming up in SOHH Whatcha Think.

1. Ohh, Bey Em
Is Beyoncé at the top of her game? She’s already doing numbers Kanye West does in a matter of days, but pulling out an album with no promotion and selling all those copies? The industry’s shocked. Rap-Up has some celebrity reactions:
‘Yonce is on everyone’s lips following the surprise release of her record-setting album. Her fans have clearly spoken, sending the album straight to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and downloading it over 1 million times on iTunes worldwide. But what do her peers think?
During Power 106′s Cali Christmas, we asked hip-hop’s biggest stars for their thoughts on Bey’s unprecedented move. Rick Ross called it “genius,” while B.o.B put it more bluntly: “Beyoncé just jizzed all over life.”
“She’s an icon. She’s in that position. Her music is that incredible. The entire plan was executed, no leaks,” said Rozay.
Plus, find out what Big Sean, ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Kid Ink, Sage the Gemini, DJ Mustard, and Ty Dolla $ign had to say about Bey’s big move. (Rap-Up)
Is there any denying how talented Beyoncé is? It’s rare for any artist to release an entire new project and not have any songs leaked or realeased without permission. #SOHHWhatchaThink?
2. Shots Kinda Fired?
Should KimYe prepare for a new beef with Katy Perry and John Mayer? Probalby not, but it’s interesting to hear Katy take a playful jab at the couple’s “Bound 2″ music video. MTV has this covered:
Between the desert settings, autumnal cinematography and cuddling atop machinery, the videos for “Who You Love” and Kanye West’s “Bound 2″ certainly have some things in common. So, do John Mayer and Katy Perry see the similarities? Well, Perry addressed that when she and Mayer stopped by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Friday (December 20). “I thought our response was a little bit more authentic because my hair was blowing in the right direction though,” Perry joked about their video and “Bound 2″ featuring West and Kim Kardashian. And for those wondering which video was shot first, Mayer confirmed that they filmed “Who You Love” two weeks ago. (MTV)
In all fairness, Perry did appear on “ELLEN” where “Bound 2″ was premiered, so there should be no fear of a beef really going down. The question is, what video do you like more? #SOHHWhatchaThink?
3. Baby Still Got Back
Eveyone remembers “Baby Got Back” from the 1990’s, no matter what year you were born, so it’s good to see it’s still celebrated today. Well, turns out Sir Mix-A-Lot had a lot to say about his most notorious record. Miss Info TV has this covered:
Fascinating memories from Sir Mix-a-Lot, my buddy Dan Charnas and more about one of the most iconic rap moments in history in Vulture’s “Oral History of Sir Mix-a-Lot’s ‘Baby Got Back’ Video.” Also… totally futuristic vision on what would later become common social media culture, amirite? I mean… everything about this song and video is applicable to your IG feed.
Sir Mix-a-Lot: There were problems initially. What really bothered me was that the main girl sitting on the pedestal at the beginning of the song had on a blonde wig, tiger shorts, a bunch of gold chains, a cheap-ass satin gown, and ugly lipstick: She looked like a ho! I thought, What the hell is this? [Although] to be honest, if I saw her on the street, I might say, “What’s up, baby?” Adam said, “I thought you wanted hot?” But I told him, “This song is called ‘Baby Got Back,’ not ‘Baby’s a Ho.’” We ended up going to the mall with the wardrobe people to get other clothes, and they changed her hair, and shooting was held up for four hours. Her name was Almond, and she said, “Thank God, I didn’t want to wear this.” Pop culture says that if a black girl is to be taken seriously, she has to assimilate and be as white as possible, to the point of bleaching her hair blonde. But the entire point of the song was the opposite. The lady who the white girls were looking at in the intro was supposed to be a queen that they saw as a ho, not an actual ho. (Miss Info TV)
Ouch. That’s pretty bad. It’s amazing how many tales and stories are never brought to the surface and how much politics play. There’s a lot more juicy information, so make sure to click through and check it out. #SOHHWhatchaThink?
