French Montana Suffers A Flop, Kanye West Hits Overdrive, 2 Chainz Preaches Tha Truth
In this week’s Pulse Report, we’re gonna keep it directly to the point by looking at French Montana painfully taking in a flop, sadly see Kanye West working too hard with little return, applaud 2 Chainz for being truthful and oh SOHH much more!

I really hate to big myself up too much but the bottom line is I TOLD y’all last week that French Montana’s Excuse My French was not going to do numbers. That’s just a cold hard fact of life. As much as I like French and appreciate the fact he’s representing the BX (non-New Yorker translation: Bronx), I can’t ride out with every record he does and just as I can’t co-sign everything he does, I’m sure there’s doggies in every market that have their limits with him. The real sad part is 50,000 shouldn’t be considered a flop in this day and age but when you total up all of the promotion the album received? There’s no way Diddy can be popping Ciroc right now.
Bad Boy Records rookie French Montana’s Excuse My French landed at No. 4. With a full week under his belt, French’s new LP managed to snatch up 56,300 records. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
The worst part behind all of this is that French has now had to swallow his own words in every interview he’s done. The numbers aren’t important? Haaaaannnnnnn? LOL. C’mon, French, we all know that you said you gotta do at least 200,000 records in the first week to feel good about yourself. Think about how many hot records French had on the radio from this album? Maybe it’s a good thing he didn’t have to purchase all of those guest features. All I’ll say is this, French is a great doggy and can spit a few rhymes but I don’t know if he has that star power just yet. People clap when they see him but are they copping those albums? The iTunes sales? That’s something you’ve got to consider. Then you factor in the sophomore album probably won’t have anything close to the same promotion this album had.
2. Yeezus Christ
Is Kanye West losing his mind yet? You would think so after he decided to say Yeezus will drop June 18th and now put sneakers, Air Yeezy 2’s, all-red, into the mix? Kanye’s going to be a very busy man, especially since it looks like there’s a strong chance he’s going to have to accept the fact that he needs more time to put the new album together and June 18th will disappear.
Kanye West’s new album “Yeezus” is due out June 18, but he’s still in the studio putting the final touches on the track list. Chatter among music insiders is the rapper’s scrambling to add some consumer-friendly singles to the album. The aggressive tracks he performed on “SNL,” including “New Slaves” and “Black Skinhead” received mixed reviews. But an insider tells us that West’s reworking so close to the release date is “not in any response to any negative reaction.” He’s also bringing in extra marketing muscle to push “Yeezus” including Amy Thomson, who managed Swedish House Mafia and is working with West as a consultant. (NY Post)
Hmmmm…… was “New Slaves” a bad recorrd? I can’t say it was, but Kanye definitely didn’t think that it was suitable for his entire audience. Think about it too, did it get a lot of radio play around you? I hardly heard it on Power 105 and Hot 97 the times I had my radio on. Bottom line is who is ready to pay for Kanye’s music again after seeing that Cruel Summer didn’t live up to its potential?
3. Moment of the Week: 2 Chainz Keeps It 100
I didn’t use to like 2 Chainz during his “Tity Boi” days but he’s on everything and killing it as well. Whether it’s his own records or a guest feature, Chainz is that doggy. And to really make my day, he dropped some knowledge that I thought, initially, would be “Rappers Say” material but ended up being some real gems. You gotta respect it:
The six-foot-five giant with the strange look and the twisted humor (Money talk, you ain’t got none / End of discussion) is hip-hop’s most in-demand MC, thanks to his tawdry, spit-take-funny two-beat punch lines. “There’s nothing new under the sun,” Chainz says about the lyrics for his second album, out this summer. “Everyone’s sold dope, f*cked bitches, popped champagne, shot guns. I’ll take the extra minutes to do it a new way.” (GQ)
LOL!!! *DEAD!!!* No joking around though, it’s very true. Why try to be something you’re not? Chainz spits that hot fire (pardon the dated expression) and we all love it. It might be considered ignorant and dumb, but it’s fun at the end of the day. You gotta applaud Chainz for not sugarcoating anything and keeping it a hundred. Bravo, doggy.
4. Mrs. Butterworth: Kim Kardashian
I don’t know why, but something about seeing a knocked up Kim Kardashian is a turn-on to me. LOL. Maybe it’s the idea of her finally entering that “MILF” category that Beyoncé and Alicia Keys joined recently. But I’m going to flip it on y’all, bear with me. We’ve all seen the fatty shots and the big boobie shots of Kim but what about her looking sexy pregnant? Yeah, it’s a stretch and trust me it’s not on some fetish type stuff, but for a pregnant woman, Kim’s kinda…hot. Don’t make yourself get grossed out and enjoy. LOL.
5. Rappers Say The Darndest Things
Okay, I’m not going to lie to y’all, rappers were actually on pretty good behavior this week so forcing myself to put a doggy on here that really shouldn’t didn’t make sense to me. Thus, one doggy made sure to find a reason for me to have to place him in here and that could only be Chief Keef. It’s bad enough he’s getting into more crime than DMX used to get into during his prime, but then you add to it the dumb comments afterward? LOL! I can’t get over this “excuse” he gave police after getting pulled over and arrested going 110 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour road. SMH.
17-year-old rap sensation Chief Keef had $8,000 in CASH rolled up in his pocket at the time he was arrested for speeding in Illinois this week … this according to the police report obtained by TMZ. Cops say Keef was driving a black BMW SUV at 110 mph when he was pulled over around 3:18 AM on May 27. During the arrest, cops say Keef explained, “I just got back from doing a show in Iowa, I’m a rapper.” Cops proceeded to put Keef in handcuffs and conducted a search. They found a bulge in his front left vest pocket — which turned out to be a “large roll of dollar bills” … $8,000 to be exact.
***Aight, I don’t want to hear it, it was actually a pretty good and slow week. For what it’s worth, rest in peace to Andre 3000’s mother. Whether you know someone or not, dealing with a loss of a family relative is hard, especially if it’s your mother. Positive thoughts to him and the Benjamin family. As far as the weekend goes, thank God After Earth has received bad reviews, b/c it’s time to watch the Yankees kick that Boston azz! LOL. I’ll catch y’all on Tuesday! –BB***
