Drake’s No. 1 Radio Hater Speaks, Kendrick Lamar Made Everyone’s Fave Rapper Hotter, A$AP Ferg Goes In Over “Control”

Work it out Wednesday. It’s about getting things worked out, so why not take a listen to the man Drake probably dislikes the most in the radio industry? Speaking of hate, did Kendrick Lamar‘s hate on fellow rappers actually increase everyone’s popularity? He might not be the most popular out of A$AP, but Ferg made it known he can spit some pretty serious rhymes when his back is up against the corner. All this coming up in SOHH Whatcha Think.

1. Respect Tha God

Is Charlamagne Tha God a true hater? Not in your typical sense, but he is the type to speak exactly what he is feeling at any given time. It seems like he is ready to explain just why Drake won’t grant him an interview anytime soon. You Heard That New is on it:

Charlamagne Tha God explains why Drake won’t do an interview with him, touches on his beef with Hot97 and then his opinion on Russell Westbrook’s fashion sense with BlogXilla on The No Judgment Zone. (You Heard That New)

Whether you love him or hate him, you have to appreciate the brute honest that is Charlamagne. Even Dame Dash and Jay Z have hugged it out, can the same thing happen for him and Drake? #SOHHWhatchaThink?

2. Step It Up

Did Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” contorversy actually help out the state of hip-hop? We’ll have to wait and see but in the meantime, it looks like a lot of artists’ social networking presence received a major boost. Pigeons & Planes has a breakdown:

Kendrick Lamar‘s verses on Big Sean‘s track “Control (HOF)” blew up the internet last week and the effects of his rapid-fire rap game namechecking are still being felt. Aside from a number of rather meh-worthy responses, the artists that Kendrick mentioned have seen significant changes in their social media followings.

According to the research done by BBE Booking Agency, Lamar may have boosted relatively niche artist Big KRIT to a much higher level in mainstream hip-hop culture. Not only that, but the overall effect of the song seems to be shining the spotlight on Jay Electronica in a way that’s never been seen before. Check out the gallery above to see each relevant rapper’s growth on their social channels.

The info is taken from the data analytics software BBE uses: NextBigSound and Beatdeck. (Pigeons & Planes)

Could we start to see this type of thing happening more and more in hip-hop? Did Kendrick Lamar single-handedly help the rap game out and give artists a lot more buzz than they had a week or two prior? #SOHHWhatchaThink?

3. Spit It, A$AP

A$AP Rocky may have said Kendrick Lamar must have been smoking crack to claim “King of New York” status but it looks like A$AP Ferg decided to show off his lyrical skills to get a point across. Complex has this covered:

Ferg got on the mic to deliver a verse about the shot from Kendrick, which “barely grazed me, and it could have hit Rock.” He goes on to question Kendrick’s right to compare himself to 2Pac, drops a Schoolboy Q subliminal and calls himself the “new 50 Cent,” adding “I will fucking Ja Rule you, boy.” He also brings in Kendrick’s muse Sherane and makes a Top Dawg jab while the rest of the A$AP Mob starts losing it in the booth. Like Kendrick, Ferg’s voice here sounds vicious, like he’s actually fighting back.

It still seems like mostly friendly fire, but this may be the first “Control” response with real teeth: It’s certainly the closest we’ve come so far to something from someone Kendrick actually called out. It also doesn’t hurt that it also comes from the one New York crew mentioned in the verse or that it’s, quite frankly, really good.

This must be what that competition thing everyone kept talking about last week looks like. (Complex)

Is there anyone left in lower mainstream hip-hop that has not yet offered up some type of response to Kendrick Lamar? It’s been either interview or response song, but Kendrick is really cranking things up this summer. #SOHHWhatchaThink?
