“He’s Got People Like Waka Flocka Wearing His Clothing Brand”

Hot Spot No. 9

With 2014 finally here and in full effect, SOHH’s reached out to the biggest regional deejays throughout the nation to name the Top 14 Most Surprising Hip-Hop Hot Spots. Today, DJ Swirv DeNiro shows love to the Richmond, Virginia hip-hop scene.

The hip-hop vibe in Richmond is definitely growing. There’s a lot of artists out here that are moving and trying to get signed. Richmond is the place you need to be.

The best spot to go out to for clubbing is called The Canal Club. That’s where there’s a lot of live shows going down. You can see a lot of artists performing. That’s one of the best places in Richmond.

A great place to go just outside of the area is called The National. It’s a little bit north of us, right in the Washington, DC area. There’s a lot of small clubs throughout Richmond but those are more hole in the wall types of spots. So when you’re talking about places to go out and see performances, you want to go to The Canal Club and head out to The National. All day.

The nightclubs are where a lot of deejays go out to but one strip club we do have in Richmond is called The Candy Bar. All the smart artists know to put their records in that strip club.

If you’re hungry, one of my favorite places to go to is Croakers Spot Restaurant and Mama J’s. Those are the two main urban spots. Croakers Spot has been around for over 100 years. It’s one of the top spots for soul food. Mama J’s is like the second best one.
