Atlanta rapper Trinidad James can sleep a little bit better these days as new reports claim he does not have to worry about calling up the best lawyer money can buy following a publicized drug possession arrest.

According to reports, T. James' case has been dropped by prosecutors.

Trinidad James may have looked baked out of his mind in the mug shot after his arrest last week ... but pics don't convict James is walking ... TMZ has learned. James was busted Friday for possession of marijuana after lighting up in his Mississippi Holiday Inn hotel room -- but after further investigation, cops have backed off the case. We asked repeatedly why they won't even present the case to prosecutors ... but we got nothin'. (TMZ)

James kept fans abreast on his status in Mississippi after getting caught with marijuana a few days ago.

"...To answer your question...YES, @TrinidadJamesGG IS PERFORMING TONIGHT! OXFORD STAND UP! #MississippiGOLD," James retweeted February 7.
"Oxford chillin ready for a great show"
"Thank$ Mississippi for the love!!! #oxford" (Trinidad James' Twitter)

Details of the rapper's unexpected run-in with law enforcement started to circulate online Friday (February 7).

Trinidad James just got busted for possession of marijuana after lighting up in his Mississippi hotel room ... TMZ has learned. Cops in Panola County tell us the rapper -- real name Nicholas Williams -- is in custody and being booked right now. We're told Trini -- whose biggest hit is "All Gold Everything" -- was arrested at the Batesville, MS Holiday Inn. Just 2 nights ago he was hanging with Diddy, a bunch of other rappers, and Justin Bieber ... in an Atlanta nightclub. (TMZ)

Recently, fellow Southern rapper T.I. spoke out on James' comments about the New York hip-hop scene falling to Atlanta.

"Trinidad is authorized to speak on Trinidad. That's one, and this is not a derogatory statement towards Trinidad, but he can't speak for me. He can't speak. And since I am a part of Atlanta, I don't think it's adequate that he speak for the entire population of Atlanta. So, I just don't think that, with all due respect, I don't think he's come that far and walked that walk enough yet to where that will be accepted without ridicule." (This Is 50)
