Former Cash Money Records member Mannie Fresh has provided an update to fans hoping they will get their hands on a long-awaited Big Tymers reunion album in the near future.
According to Fresh, plans to hook up with Cash Money head Birdman rests on two key factors.
"Facts and figures," the New Orleans legend told MTV News during NBA All-Star weekend. "That's where we at right now. Facts and figures. We just trying to lay down a plan for it, a blueprint and we'll see what happens from there." (MTV)
Despite the speculation, Mannie also said no music had been recorded as of now.
Fresh confirmed that he and Birdman were in fact discussing his involvement in the much-anticipated project. "We just talking, ya heard? That's all I could tell you," the Cash Money Records alum said. "No verses, no music, none of that. We just started on negotiating, that's where we at right now. Hopefully it's gon happen. I'ma give you a positive note, hopefully it's gon happen." (MTV)
The Big Tymers, plus a slew of other notable Cash Money artists, came together for a tribute-based BMI Awards ceremony last summer.
Past and present Cash Money Records stars reunited in celebration of label founders Brian "Birdman" Williams and Ronald "Slim" Williams at this year's Broadcast Music, Inc.'s R&B/Hip-Hop Awards held in New York City's Manhattan Center Thursday (Aug. 22). Ray J split hosting duties with BMI President and CEO Del Bryant and Vice President Catherine Brewton while Juvenile, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Turk, Mack Maine and Mannie Fresh were all on hand to salute Birdman and Slim's coveted BMI Icon honor, spotlighting their "unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers." In January 2012, Fresh detailed his issues with Birdman's Cash Money empire.
"We still have money issues. We will always have them, as long as Cash Money is selling anything that has Mannie Fresh on it. 'Til this day, I'm like, "Dude, what's going on? Where are the statements for this?" There's always some kind of complication, that's all I can say," Fresh said in an interview. "Everybody has to get paid. It would be something large if Cash Money did a tour with the first generation of artists, but with everything that's happened, we need money upfront and on top of that we all need our own attorneys. You don't get my money and pay me-I get my money directly." (Billboard)
