News: Pitbull Sniffs Out Jay Z's Blueprint: "I'm In The Business Of Attracting Women, Not Men"

Rap mogul Jay Z is not the only hip-hop artist dropping a signature fragrance line in the near future as reports claim Miami's Pitbull has his own batch hitting retailers this winter.
If all things go accordingly, diehard fans will be able to preorder the Pitbull fragrances in a couple weeks.
Growing up in the Eighties during the heyday of "Miami Vice" also tuned Pérez into the world of scent with the sharp-dressed hipsters who "always had a heavy smell to them. Personally I wasn't a big fan of that -- I was more about a softer, sexier smell. I'm in the business of attracting women, not men," he said with an easygoing laugh. The result is a line of men's and women's fragrances, simply titled Pitbull, and a marketing campaign that demonstrates Pérez's penchant for pragmatic and patient but nonconformist thinking. Instead of launching the fragrances next Valentine's Day, they will be officially unveiled during his New Year's Eve concert at the American Airlines Arena in Miami. But preselling will begin on Dec. 1 with a nontraditional launch partner. (WWD)
The global rapper also explained the motivation behind providing both men's and women's scents with the launch.
Asked why he opted to create a men's and women's masterbrand in his first fragrance effort, he did not give an expected reply. "When we started talking about it, it was about very sexy smells," he said. "The woman can wear the men's cologne and the man can wear the women's perfume." This, he said, is a reflection of his habit of mixing fragrances together, regardless of gender. "I love to mix them up and see what kind of people you attract off of them," he said, naming Versace, Varvatos and Prada as brands he's mixed on himself. "I am a walking focus group." (WWD)
Slated for a Black Friday release, rap mogul Jay Z will aim to conquer the fragrance game with his new Gold Jay Z bottle.
Jay Z is launching his first men's fragrance just in time for the holidays. The fragrance "GOLD JAY Z" will debut at Barney's New York on November 20th as part of his collaboration with the store, featuring three different sized bottles ranging from $39 to $70. The cologne will hit additional shelves at 2,000 department stores on Black Friday, November 29th. According to reports, the rapper and entrepreneur reportedly rejected 3,200 names before settling on one that was just right. He picked up one of the bottles saying, "this is the sh*t; it's gold." Along with Pit and Jay, Young Money's Nicki Minaj promoted her own Minajesty fragrance last summer.
The bottle is shaped in her bust with a curly pink wig and red bustier bra. The scent is described as having juicy notes of peach, red currant, and lemon, with magnolia, pink frangipani, and tiger orchid in the heart. The base consists of tonka, vanilla, and musk notes. "Minajesty smells like a passionate love affair," said Nicki. "Mysterious and sexy. An unforgettable and hypnotizing scent." She filmed a commercial for the perfume earlier this month with famed photographer David LaChapelle, who shot her M.A.C VIVA GLAM campaign. (Rap-Up)
