Grammy-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco recently talked about Kanye West's hard-hitting "Black Skinhead" and the speculation of him possibly losing his place in the rap spotlight.
Despite his love and admiration for Mr. West, Fiasco admitted he did not fully grasp Ye's standout record.
"I still don't know what 'Black Skinhead' is about. I still don't know what it is," Fiasco admitted in an interview. " It's a lot of emotional, a lot of this, a lot of cliché, a lot of kinda stuff balled in together, and it's just supposed to be presented as a package and you digest it. But I still don't know what it's supposed to do. Ye has his plan." (Power 106 FM)
Lupe also spoke out on the perception of losing some relevance in hip-hop's mainstream.
"I don't really know what falling off is, especially for Lupe. Did I fall off at radio? Did I fall of as an MC? You mean I'm not just as popular as I was six months ago or because you let this new dude come in who you think is nice because you're 17 and he's relating to your high school experience the same way Nas did for me." According to reports, Kanye West and pop star Miley Cyrus have a "Black Skinhead" remix in the works.
Shortly after the 2013 MTV VMAs (August 25), reports started swirling that Miley Cyrus and Kanye West were working on a remix to the rapper's song, "Black Skinhead." Both reportedly skipped VMA after-parties to meet up in the studio the night of the award show. Mike Will Made It, producer, close friend and collaborator of Miley Cyrus, confirmed with MTV RapFix today (Sept. 11)(via MissInfoTV) that Miley will indeed be featured on the remix to the "Yeezus" track. (Does this mean we're also getting a "Yeezus" remix album?) (Billboard)
Nearly seven minutes in length, Fiasco's "Peace of Paper/Cup of Jayzus" track features Lupe hinting at the fall-off speculation upon its release in September.
If your lucky enough to follow Lupe Fiasco on twitter (he locked his account), there's a good chance you've noticed him posting lyrics and hinting at new content titled 'Peace Of Paper Cup Of Jayzus'. Well today (September 11th) the Chicago native decides to finally give fans a listen to what he's been working on and turns out it's a 7 minute track of him going in over a remake of Jay-Z's 'Holy Grail' beat. "Critics say I fell off, I acknowledge a slip" spits the 1-Grammy winner. It takes more then a few spins to catch every reference and line Lupe makes on a track and this one's no different, especially considering the track is 7 minutes long with no hook. (Direct Lyrics)
