[Each week, SOHH asks two entertainment personalities to name who they feel is the most underrated emcee in hip-hop. After Vali gave Lupe Fiasco the title earlier this week, Midwest rapper Derek Minor crowns Royce Da 5'9 SOHH Underrated.]

For me, it's a no-brainer, I would pick Lecrae as my SOHH Underrated choice. He's got bars for days. But if I had to go through all of my hip-hop catalogue, who's been the most underrated for years? It has to be Royce Da 5'9.

When you look at his body of work, some people look at the lyricism, but just look at his situations. I think he was over at Tommy Boy [Records] at first, he had the "Rock City" record and it looked like it was going to be Aftermath for a while but then him and Shady [Eminem] fell out and then he did eventually sign with Shady, him and Slaughterhouse.

When you look at all of that, it just seems like he never got that push to get him over the top to be that next artist because a lot of it is life happens. A lof of the things that happened like him getting into that incident with Eminem and Em was super hot at the time, it feels like he never got that push>

To anyone that listens to rap, they know he's a great emcee. He can be in a group with Eminem and hold his own. There's no way you can say he can't hold his own weight. If you talk to a lot of these young cats today and tell them about Royce Da 5'9, a lot of them will say they never heard of him. So I think as far as underrated, yeah, I gotta name Royce.

The thing is Eminem bodies people on their own records and then you hear Eminem and Royce together and you're like, "What in the world?" That dude goes bar-for-bar with one of the top five emcees of all time. He's bar-for-bar with Em, he doesn't get outmatched.
