G-Unit fans can start rejoicing as elusive member Lloyd Banks has returned to the mainstream spotlight courtesy of a new joint record with Wu-Tang Clan's Raekwon.
Promptly titled "Drop A Diamond," the new record features Banks and "The Chef" cooking up hard-hitting bars.
After a brief hiatus, which included scrapping his new project in order to re-do the whole thing, Lloyd Banks is finally back with some new heat. With the Chef's assistance and Ryan Alexy on the 1s and 2s, Banks cooks up some audio dope with 'Drop A Diamond'. Did the PLK do us justice with 'Drop A Diamond'? (HHNM)
The "Punchline King" is expected to put out a new underground project in the near future.
Banks is getting ready to finally release a new mixtape, All Or Nothing Vol 1: Failure's No Option. To be hosted by DJ Drama, the tape was supposed to have come out earlier in the year, but Banks chose instead to scrap the entire thing at one point in order to rerecord it. Perhaps this new song is a sign that the Queens native has made some progress on the mixtape and will be dropping it soon. (Complex)
Recently, G-Unit head 50 Cent said the same level of urgency is not existent between himself and the original members.
"I hope that they can actually figure out, from that, like when we say they haven't quite followed my blueprint, it's disappointing that they're not following. You feel what I'm saying? To be that close in the circle, it's almost like, I'm going to be honest with you, it feels like there's something missing from the actual character. Just people, in general, as people, I think there's something missing. Something in my character that's not in their character because I almost 'have' to do it. Financially I don't have to, but I have to because it's just within me. I gotta be a part of it, I gotta be working, I gotta have something going on, something that I'm doing. They've had opportunities to make the transitions that a lot of artists don't because they can behind the scenes without everyone paying attention to them." (Hot 97)
Last fall, G-Unit's DJ Whoo Kid talked about trying to reunite 50 and Lloyd.
"I mean I don't even know man, I tried to like talk to them. Fif says he hasn't heard from him, I don't know man. They're supposed to be cool, I don't think there are any major problems. From what I know, they're cool. They were all at Chris Lighty's funeral. You will hear it from him (50). He will give you the view points on Banks and the whole situation with the Unit. But from what I know, they're cool. But 50 will let you know and explains the situation better." (HHNM)
