Atlanta rapper Future is not shy about hyping himself up and said music critics should pay him a lot more attention for the trends he has set over the past 12 months.
When asked about his upcoming Honest album, Future noted just how influential he is as an artist.
"I set trends and it's about time people started noticing," Future said in an interview. "I'm just being honest. I had 'Karate Chop' -- I'm just honest. I'm just honest. I had the most songs on the radio this year but they don't want to give me my credit. [Radio personality] Justin Credible, if I could be as credible as you, I would play nothing but Future." The ATL hitmaker recently spoke on linking up with pop sensation Miley Cyrus for new tunes.
"We got a lot of great records, and it all came from conversation and having a nice vibe," the Atlanta rapper told us. "Whenever she allowed me in her personal life through conversation, I tried to take that vibe and go to the booth. I told her, 'You've gotta embrace your fears. If something's bothering you, you've gotta run toward it. If you're crying about it, you need to cry till you can't cry anymore. If you try to hold it back, then it's gonna eat you up. But if you embrace [it], the music moves." (MTV)
Earlier this year, Atlanta producer Metro Boomin talked to SOHH about his chemistry with Future.
"It's hard to say what artist I've had the most creativity and fun with in the studio so far. I think me and Future have great chemistry considering all of the records we've done. I'm trying to think who's been the most fun and memorable. I'm really trying to think. Gucci's definitely one of them. Him and Future pretty much work the same as far as recording. Gucci's a character. It's always entertaining to see him and work around him. He's so personable and he's such a cool dude. That's always fun." (SOHH)
Fellow Atlanta beatmaker Mike Will Made It previously spoke to SOHH and crowned Future SOHH Underrated.
"There's a lot of people I feel are really underrated, I would say Future is underrated. Future is real creative to me and a lot of people just think he does catchy, street records. And sometimes they look over his capabilities. Not even look over, but really just not even know or [are] ignorant to the fact that he can make other type of records. That's why I had to do the record "Turn Off The Lights" with him. I knew he was capable of doing that kind of stuff. As soon as he signed the [record] deal, I was like, 'Okay, it's time to do these other kind of records so they can see the other side too.' His concepts and his melodies -- his whole sound is just brand new and professional. Sometimes a lot of people get scared of new sounds and people that sound too different. They're so caught up in sounding like the next person. Once you really enjoy music and you understand music, you'll be a fan of somebody's flow--a different flow, a different melody. Future comes with a different flow, a different melody and all that different kind of stuff on every track. He really doesn't sound like anybody." (SOHH Underrated)
