Young Money's Drake recently stepped forward to place some clarity into recent buzz sparked by Cash Money Records CEO Birdman about a Big Tymers album coming together with him and Lil Wayne.
Despite the hype and speculation, Drizzy could not fully detail the reported Big Tymers plans.
"I didn't get the phone call about that," Drake told MTV News, clearly caught off guard by the question, and even glancing over at his management for answers. "But I'm sure I'll be involved. I would've loved to bring the Big Tymers out [at OVO Fest], that would've been crazy. But maybe we'll save that for next year." Drake explained that he never actually had a conversation with Birdman about working on a Big Tymers album, but only heard uproar over the project in passing, after Birdman initially announced the news on a special YMCMB edition of "RapFix Live" in Miami and ruled out Mannie Fresh's involvement. The Toronto native also revealed the backlash he received once the Big Tymers plans went viral.
"Mannie Fresh is an incredible guy and of course Birdman is one of a kind," he said. "I think I heard about it or watched some of it, and then I got people being like, 'You'll never be a Big Tymer, your sh-- is terrible -- just going off on me. So I'm not the one being like, 'Oh I'm a new Big Tymer. [But] I'm down though, to work on anything. If Birdman calls me to work on something I'ma work on it." (MTV)
Over the spring, Birdman said Drake and Lil Wayne would snatch Mannie's spot in the Big Tymers semi-reunion effort.
But everyone wants to know: Will Mannie Fresh be involved? "No. Nah. Not at all," Birdman confirmed when he appeared on a special episode of "RapFix Live" in Miami on Wednesday (May 8). Nothing for the project has been recorded yet. Actually, it just started as an idea, but according to Wayne, it is definitely on the way and all parties involved seem pretty excited, including Drake, who wasn't present for the interview. "You can't even tell him an idea," Wayne said of Drizzy. "I just told him that we were thinking about it, and he just hit me and said, 'We're lookin' for some music today.' " (MTV)
In January 2012, Fresh detailed his issues with Birdman's Cash Money empire.
"We still have money issues. We will always have them, as long as Cash Money is selling anything that has Mannie Fresh on it. 'Til this day, I'm like, "Dude, what's going on? Where are the statements for this?" There's always some kind of complication, that's all I can say," Fresh said in an interview. "Everybody has to get paid. It would be something large if Cash Money did a tour with the first generation of artists, but with everything that's happened, we need money upfront and on top of that we all need our own attorneys. You don't get my money and pay me-I get my money directly." (Billboard)
