Earlier this month, Young Hov celebrated his new album dominating its competition on the sales charts.
Rap mogul Jay-Z's Magna Carta Holy Grail debuted atop the competition at No. 1. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Jigga's new solo album has sold 527,000 records in week one. (SOHH)
The release also helped Jay reach new heights with it being his first solo LP to top music charts in the United Kingdom.
Jay-Z has landed his first UK number one album with Magna Carta Holy Grail. The rapper's highest-charting album previously was 2011's collaborative project Watch The Throne with Kanye West, which peaked at number three. The record ousted Mumford & Sons' Babel which enjoyed surging sales following the band's appearance at Glastonbury. In the singles chart, Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines returned to the top spot, replacing John Newman's Love Me Again after just one week at number one. (BBC UK)
The rap mogul visited the real Magna Carta while overseas in early July.
Who's bigger ... Jay-Z or the Magna Carta -- the historic document that eventually gave Americans "certain inalienable rights" -- not his new album? It's a toss up, but yeah ... Jigga paid his respects during a Sunday visit with the real-life Magna Carta -- the 13th Century document written in England, and forced upon King John in order to provide liberties and justice for all ... and stuff. Jay-Z posed next to the MC in the Salisbury, England cathedral where it's kept under lock and key. Now, if he can just find the Holy Grail. FUN FACT: The Magna Carta is the basis for the U.S. Constitution, and therefore most of our laws. But here's the thing -- do you remember when the Magna Carta was signed? (TMZ)
