Odd Future's Earl Sweatshirt is not changing his stance toward Jay-Z's new Magna Carta Holy Grail album being his least favorite and has further clarified recent remarks about the LP.

While Earl is known for being outspoken, he did admit the immediate backlash from his critique came as a surprise.

"I was not expecting that," he told MTV News before hitting the stage at his Vitamin Water Uncapped performance in New York on Monday. "Because I wasn't trying to come foul at Jay-Z, it's just not my favorite album by him, but I f----ing love Jay-Z. ... I stand by the fact that I don't like that album, but I love Jay-Z. I just thought he didn't sound like Jay-Z. I'm not delusional enough to think that people don't change. Everyone changes. I sound a lot different than I did a while ago too and I'm sure there's people that's not fans of that and I'm accepting of that." (MTV)

While Sweatshirt would not take back his remarks, he did recently let people know the situation had been blown out of proportion.

"ill say two things and then ill go away," Sweatshirt tweeted July 12.
"so many idiots came charging out the woodworks yesterday to defend jay z like i said something offensive about him as a human being"
"all my point was is that this album, in my opinion, was bad."
"im not gonna speak on that anymore unless its in person cause 140 characters is too restricting"
"now that thats out of the way:"

Last week, Sweatshirt publicly made it known he is not a fan of Jigga's latest project.

"if you really f*cked with magna carta then unfollow me," he tweeted July 11.
"im gonna listen to allure and eat a breakfast burrito."
"i hope that opinions on my material throughout my career are based on the quality of it and not how big my name is"
"hahah welp theres goes the last of the black fans i had"
"hahaha FATHER FORGIVE ME FOR I HAVE TAKEN THE NAME OF OUR HOLY SAVIOR JAY Z IN VAIN" (Earl Sweatshirt's Twitter)

Jay's former business partner Dame Dash recently applauded the new album.

"In the barber shop listening to jays new album....I can't front... I still like hearing him pop shit cause I know he's telling the truth...proud to be be a part of that..#bittersweet," Dash wrote on Instagram July 5. (Dame Dash's Instagram)
