Technology giant Samsung has reportedly purchased one million copies of the album to give away.
The connection: Samsung has purchased 1 million copies of Jay-Z's coming album, entitled "Magna Carta Holy Grail," slated for release July 4, and plans to give them to Samsung Galaxy smartphone users for free - 72 hours ahead of the release. The users are to receive the music through an app they'll receive later this month. (Recipients won't be able to share it until the official release date.) Samsung paid $5 apiece for the albums, according to a person familiar with the matter. It wasn't immediately clear if Nielsen SoundScan will count Samsung's purchases in its sales tallies. In last night's NBA Finals halftime commercial, Jigga used the advertisement announced the new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail.
Rap fans rejoice: Jay-Z will release a new album, "Magna Carta Holy Grail," on July 4. Jay-Z announced the news through a Samsung commerical which played during tonight's (June 16) NBA Finals Game 5 (Miami Heat vs. San Antonio Spurs). In the three-minute ad, Jay-Z is seen recording and brainstorming in the studio with Rick Rubin, Pharrell Williams, Timbaland and Swizz Beatz. "The album is about, like this duality of how do you navigate through this whole thing, through success, through failures, through all this and remain yourself," he tells Rubin of his twelfth studio album. In early spring, mega hitmaker The-Dream revealed Swizz Beatz and Timbaland were working on Jay's next solo effort.
Jay-Z is calling on some heavy-hitters for his new album. While details remain scarce, The-Dream has revealed that he has been in the lab with super-producers Timbaland and Swizz Beatz. He once again confirmed that the Roc Nation mogul is recording new material. "Jay of course is working on an album," the Grammy-winning hitmaker tells Rap-Up.com. While he remained tight-lipped, he did share that he has been working closely with Timbaland and Swizz Beatz. "Mostly close to Tim. Both of them actually. We were all in the studio together. We were all in the same building, working on Bey's album and Jay started working on his," he says. (Rap-Up)
