New York radio station Hot 97 has reportedly banned Southern rapper Riff Raff after a publicized dispute between him and program director Ebro earlier in the week.
Riff hopped onto his Twitter page Saturday (June 1) to reveal his ban.
"HAHA SO HOT 97 BANNED ME FROM SUMMER JAM 2013 iN NEW YORK EVEN THO i GOT 2ND PLACE iN VOTES," Riff tweeted June 1st.
"i CAN'T BELiEVE THAT AFTER ALL i HAVE DONE FOR U THAT U WOULD STOOP SO LOW AS TO BANNED ME FROM SUMMER JAM iN NEW YORK @OldManEbro @Hot97"
"i CAN FORGiVE U FOR THAT WEAK ASS AMBUSH iNTERViEW STUNT U PULLED AT HOT 97 BUT TO BANNED ME FROM SUMMER JAM iS SELFiSH & FOUL @OldManEbro"
"i CAN'T BELiEVE THAT iN 2013 THERE iS STiLL PREJUDiCE & RACiST iDiOTS WHO ARE iN CHARGE OF iMPORTANT MEDiA OUTLETS"
"i WONDER HOW MANY MAJOR EVENTS, MAGAZiNE COVERS & TV SHOWS THAT i WOULD HAVE BEEN A PART OF iF THERE WEREN'T SO MANY PREJUDiCE OWNERS" (Riff Raff's Twitter)
Ebro has already stepped forward to clear his name and the station from Riff's accusations.
""@ZEMO_MBK: @oldmanebro these white boys is hella mad you banned there idol" < -- I didn't tho. He made it up like he did his whole schtick"
""@tunelinks: let me get this straight. So you're saying Riff Raff is not banned and can go to Hot 97 correct?" <-- not banned. Not invited" (Ebro's Twitter)
The program director is known for publicly questioning Riff's image.
Riff Raff can be called a lot of things. Some people get it, a lot don't and others just don't care enough to spend time on the bugged out character. But you can't deny the fact that Raff has gotten himself a whole lot of attention over the last twelve months. He managed to get his own deal with Diplo and some time big collaborations in the works. However, none of this matters to the big homie Ebro, Hot97?s program director. Before anything, he wants to know if Riff Raff really takes hip-hop serious or is essentially mocking the culture. Riff also met Ebro face-to-face earlier this week after tensions mounted on the air.
RiFF RaFF has come a long way since his time on MTV's G's To Gents, appearing on ABC's daytime soap opera One Life To Live and signing to Diplo's Mad Decent label. However, Ebro was critical of the rapper and suggested RiFF RaFF's image was mocking Black culture. Despite co-hosts Peter Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds defending the freestyle and having fun with the moment, Ebro refused to let up. "You're a nice fellow [but] I'm not gonna dap you off for that freestyle," said a visibly irritated Ebro. "There were a couple of pieces in there where I was like 'Ok, there's something here.' There were a lot of other pieces in there I was like 'What the f-ck is happening right now?'" (Hip Hop Wired)
