Days after announcing Miami Heat's LeBron James will grace the cover of its NBA 2K14 video game, 2K Sports has honored this year's NBA Finals MVP with a special tribute.
2K Sports issued a press release to media outlets to help visually celebrate King James' latest NBA championship.
2K Sports is proud to congratulate NBA 2K14 cover athlete LeBron James for winning a second straight NBA Championship and NBA Finals MVP Award with the Miami Heat. The victory caps a season in which he was named NBA Most Valuable Player, while leading the Miami Heat to the second-longest winning streak in NBA history (27). James is now a four-time NBA MVP, two-time Finals MVP, an NBA scoring champion, and has won two-gold medals for the USA basketball team. James joins past NBA 2K cover athletes and fellow basketball legends Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O'Neal as multiple Finals champions. (2K Sports)
Last week, the game's first live-action trailer landed online.
LeBron James will be on the cover of NBA2K14, because he is LeBron James. There's a promo video of him talking to his video-game self, because the graphics are really good and you're not supposed to be able to tell the difference, or something. (Sports Grid)
James appears on the game's artwork, making it his first-ever video game cover.
Miami Heat star LeBron James graces the cover of NBA 2K14, the latest edition of the immensely popular and decorated basketball video game franchise that has sold more than five million copies in each of the last three years. 2K14 will be released for current generation platforms on Oct. 1 and is slated to be available on the as-yet-determined launch dates for the next-generation PS4 and X-Box One. Jason Argent, senior vice president of sports operations for 2K Sports, said playing 2K14 on current- and next-generation platforms would be "independent experiences." (USA Today)
Earlier this month, LeBron explained his motivation for teaming up with the 2K Sports franchise.
"My friends, family and fans all know how much I love NBA 2K," James said in a statement. "I remember, as a kid, getting so excited for the game to come out and see who was on the cover, and it's amazing to be a part of this great tradition. I love partnerships and opportunities that connect me directly with fans. I know from my own experience and now watching my own kids, NBA 2K is among the coolest and purest ways for fans to connect to the NBA. I love being a part of it." (ESPN)
