Roc Nation's J. Cole is letting the world know he will not have cold feet at the last minute after announcing plans to push up his Born Sinner release date to face-off against Kanye West's Yeezus.
In Cole's opinion, his release would not make as much noise if it dropped seven days after Ye's long-awaited follow-up to 2010's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album.
Instantly the lightbulb [turned on]... it got real. I made one phone call to somebody that would know, just to make sure first. As soon as I got it confirmed, I was like, 'Yo...' The idea hit me instantly: 'You got to go to that date,'" he said. "I'm not going to sit [here]... I worked too hard to come a week later after Kanye West drops an amazing album. It'd be like, 'Oh and J.Cole dropped too, a week later.' Nah. I'm going to go see him on that date. He's the greatest. So it's like, I'm a competitor by nature so it was instant, it wasn't even a thought," the Roc Nation artist continued. (Billboard)
Yesterday, the North Carolina native announced his album's early bump.
"Kanye West is one of the greatest artists of our generation.," Cole tweeted May 20th.
"Which is exactly why I'm moving my release date up."

Over the weekend, Kanye's Yeezus album title and release date were revealed.
Apparently, his girlfriend, Kim Kardashian, is also part of his marketing team. She posted a photo on Instagram Saturday night showing the album artwork for Yeezus alongside a pair of the rapper's Air Yeezy sneakers, which he designed for Nike. "#Yeezus #RedYeezy's #SNL #Tonight #NewSlaves #YeezySeason #Donda #June18," she captioned the image. (USA Today)
A few days ago, West Coast rapper Kendrick Lamar said he could not wait for Ye's new solo project to come out.
So, Kanye doing things the way he did is just West being the genius that he is, Lamar said, challenging the game and raising stakes once again with an album that's rumored to be titled Yeezus. "That's crazy, I want to hear that," Lamar said. "That's that creative Kanye genius stuff out the box ... whatever way is his way of being creative and getting his message across through that album, that's the culture. I can't wait to hear it."
