Odd Future leader Tyler, the Creator delved into his distanced relationship with group member Earl Sweatshirt's mother this week and admitted he has no idea why she holds such a grudge against him.
In Tyler's perspective, Earl's mother probably thinks he is a negative influence on the youngster.
"I don't know what it is. It can't be because she thinks he's drinking or doing drugs or anything because I never had a sip of alcohol in my life and I don't smoke or do anything so you can't blame me for that," Tyler said on Tuesday night when he sat with hip-hop journalist Elliott Wilson and an audience for the first of his #CRWN interviews at New York City's Highline Ballroom. "For some reason she thinks I'm a bad influence on her kid, but he's doing pretty good now. I totally do not understand it." (MTV)
On Tyler's "Rusty" record, he briefly references the mother's issues toward him.
"Look at that Mom who thinks I'm evil, hold that grudge against me," Tyler raps. "Though I'm the reason that her motherf*cking son got to eat" ("Rusty")
Along with touring together this spring, Tyler and Earl hooked up for a "Late Show With David Letterman" performance in early April.
Tyler, the Creator dropped by "Late Show With David Letterman" last night, bringing Earl Sweatshirt and Domo Genesis along to perform the Wolf cut "Rusty". It was not without his typical pranks: there was plenty of amazingly awkward dancing, and at the end of the song, all three left the stage abruptly before the typical handshake moment. Letterman walked on screen, alone, shouting "Come on! Don't be like that!" Tyler, Earl, and Domo eventually returned, and Tyler took a few selfies with Dave on his iPhone. (Pitchfork)
Prior to returning to the group last year, Sweatshirt reportedly was forced to attend a boarding school by his parents.
The leader of the group is a 19 year-old named Tyler, or Tyler The Creator. The second-most prominent of the group is a rapper named Hodgy Beats. The rest of the group splinter off into sub-groups. The youngest member is Earl Sweatshirt, who was recently sent away to boarding school by his parents. (Esquire)
