Grammy-winning singer T-Pain recently chopped it up with SOHH to talk about his rejuvenated love for deejaying and offer a take on Electronic Dance Music (EDM) seeping into hip-hop culture.
Pain revealed how he broke out as a deejay well before earning platinum plaques and Grammy gold.
"Actually, it goes the other way around. I was DJ Pain before I became T-Pain," Pain revealed to SOHH when asked if he transitioned into deejaying after a strong run as a rapper/singer. "I think what inspired me to become an artist was the beauty of the music that I used in my sets. I wanted to be a part of the music industry since I began to understand the structure of a song. I started to see the similarities between all the hit songs and I put two and two together, now you have T-Pain." (SOHH)
The Florida native also talked about the trend of hip-hop artists making EDM-sounding rap tunes.
"I feel like it does have a more global appeal, mainly because it's easier to follow for a lot of people," Pain added when asked about the growing trend. "The most important part of an EDM track is the music. Sometimes you can have some bangin' drums but if the music doesn't fit well with them, the track is just not dope to me. It doesn't take a lot for me to like an EDM track but it also doesn't take a lot for one to turn me off. I guess I have to be in a specific mode to really say EDM is my 'cup of tea.'" (SOHH)
Back in January, T-Pizzle showed off his deejaying skills in Las Vegas.
T Pain kicked off his DJ residency during the "House of Pain" party at Haze Nightclub at Aria on Saturday night. Arriving at Haze at 12:30 a.m., T Pain happily posed for photos before heading inside to the DJ booth, where E-Rock was already getting the crowd going. T Pain played a high energy set and had the entire club dancing and singing along until almost 4 a.m. He even dropped a brand new single: T-Pain ft. Ace Hood & Busta Rhymes "Come and Get it." T Pain was enjoying himself, sipping Grey Goose and Ciroc cocktails and even stopped the performance at one point to make himself a cocktail. (Haute Living)
A few weeks ago, Pain raised eyebrows when he cut off his iconic dreads.
"Mid cut <~ couldn't find the dude version of this but. Yea.," he tweeted March 29th.
"Go to YouTube. Search for "T-Pain Know Thy Self" to find out more"
"We must all learn to adjust with our surroundings. Those who get stuck doing the same things for too long are bound to get left behind the strong who press on and reinvent themselves. Also. Good news. Hair grows back." (T-Pain's Instagram)
