G.O.O.D Music's Pusha T recently shared his thoughts on today's rap game, specifically, what five hip-hop artists have things on lock these days.
While he included himself and Kanye West, Pusha named perceived music rival Drake in his top five rundown.
"If I had to just name out five right now, right now, who's just doing they thing, I would say myself," Pusha said. "I feel like I get busy. I feel like I do it in the spirit of hip-hop, I feel like I take risks -- I feel like Kanye West is definitely on that top ten, that top five because if you look at the top ten, four people on that top ten were influenced by what Ye got, including myself, Chainz, Sean and Ye himself. So I think you got to put him in there. I think you got to put Kendrick in there. I think he's like, he's killing the game. I think you have to. I think you got to put Drake in there as well. You know what I'm saying? He's rapping. I think you got to put Ross in there as well just because his presence in the clubs, so on and so forth is heavy and his movement with his guys, Meek, he ushered them out, Wale, and stuff like that. I feel like that's five strong in different categories and you can even look at everybody for who they are and be like, 'Okay, I can see why he's thinking that.'" (Hot 107.9)
In February, Pusha spoke on his readiness to battle the Young Money team but also acknowledged they make quality music.
"Listen, at the end of the day, I'm ready for anything and anybody," Pusha said in an interview with DJ Whoo Kid. "I don't, this is music to me, like, this is music, this is something I'm good at. Like, it's something that I'm very good at. Like I said man, I'm spiteful. I'm saying, you're asking me, so I've got to tell you, that's real. I don't shy away from anything. I'm not into it like that. And like I said, I keep it tasteful. I keep it tasteful and I keep it hip-hop, I keep it rap. Like, that's it. I ain't trippin'. And I'm not here to discredit what they've achieved. Drake is good. This is like real talk. These guys are good." (Whoolywood)
Despite some exchanged words, Drake previously spoke on his admiration for Pusha.
"I listened to it and I just couldn't pick it out. I couldn't pick out where I was supposed to be offended," Drake told radio personality Funkmaster Flex Thursday (October 13) night. "Everyone was just like, 'Oh you got dissed in this song by Pusha T.' First of all, I've never really had any interaction with Pusha T so for him to diss me would be purely issues that he's having within himself...We've met but we've been just always cordial with each other. I'm a fan of The Clipse. I say it in interviews. So I've never really had any issues with him. But it's a frustrating time for a lot of people right now, I get it. So if it was directed at me, just make it a little more direct next time. I'm up for whatever man. I didn't take offense to it though." (Hot 97)
Last fall, the G.O.O.D Music rapper discussed his publicized feud with Drake's mentor Lil Wayne.
"I put out a record. He puts out a record. Like I said, it's not about diss records to me. It's about making good music. I feel like everything I've put out thus far in regards to anything that has to do with me having an issue or so on and so forth, has been an immaculate record," Pusha said in an interview. "I can't say that for everybody else. Everybody else who may have thrown a shot here or thrown a shot there, whatever the case might be, at me, I can't say their record was awesome. I think that I was shaking souls with 'Exodus.' I think I was shaking souls with 'New God Flow.' ... It's not a personal beef. I don't personally know any of them. These guys have made great music in their day. These guys got fans, tons of fans, so I can't really let anybody speak ill, somebody with that many fans and somebody with that type of visibility and with that type of history, I can't just let them make statements against me and be quiet about it. That can be viewed as a victory." (Booska-P)
