The Neptunes' Pharrell Williams finally broke his silence on rap mogul Jay-Z's upcoming untitled new solo album and said fans can expect nothing but pure greatness from Young Hov.
The normally tight-lipped Williams spilled heightened up fans' expectations for the new LP in an interview this week.
"New Beyoncé, new Jay-Z, new Jennifer Hudson," Williams said when asked if he has new music coming. "The rain man is back. The rain main is back. I gave him a straight up, you know, Stanley Kubrick movie. The rain man is back. And Busta [Rhymes] got one too." (Hot 97)
Last week, mega hitmaker The-Dream revealed Swizz Beatz and Timbaland were working on Jay's next solo effort.
Jay-Z is calling on some heavy-hitters for his new album. While details remain scarce, The-Dream has revealed that he has been in the lab with super-producers Timbaland and Swizz Beatz. He once again confirmed that the Roc Nation mogul is recording new material. "Jay of course is working on an album," the Grammy-winning hitmaker tells Rap-Up.com. While he remained tight-lipped, he did share that he has been working closely with Timbaland and Swizz Beatz. "Mostly close to Tim. Both of them actually. We were all in the studio together. We were all in the same building, working on Bey's album and Jay started working on his," he says. (Rap-Up)
In 2012, Young Hov's longtime sound engineer Young Guru dished out a few details about the LP.
"Jay-Z is always working on stuff, it's a concept that I can't talk about but I'm marveled at how smart this guy is. When he told me the concept, I was like 'Why didn't I think of that?' It was just so simple. It's not a concept album though. It's not like American Gangster, it's not a Beatles concept album. It has a concept and a title, and the title and the concept fit him so well that people are going to be like 'Wow.'," he explained. "I like certain writers because it takes me 8,000 paragraphs to get my full point across. When somebody can take what I just said and condense it into two sentences and still have the same effectiveness, that's a good writer. The simplicity of the title and the concept that it conveys is incredible." (Complex)
While not off his new LP, Jay's "100$ Bill" The Great Gatsby record premiered online last weekend.
Serving as executive producer for the soundtrack to Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby film has its benefits. Along with assembling an all-star cast, Jay-Z includes his own new song titled "100$ Bill." Appearing on the soundtrack's deluxe edition arriving on May 7, you can now enjoy a extended preview of Hov's new offering, courtesy of iTunes. Jay-Z name drops Slick Rick, 9/11, politicians, and drug peddling on the groovy sounding cut. Co-starring with Jay on the project are Lana Del Rey, will.i.am, Fergie, Q-Tip, Gotye, Florence + The Machine, The xx, and Emeli Sandé. Beyoncé and André 3000's cover of Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" is the second bonus track, only available on the deluxe edition. (Miss Info TV)
