[SOHH highlights a hot record each Tuesday and offers a unique look at the track in Singled Out. After Aasim broke down his Nas-featured "Queens Sh*t" smash, New Orleans rap newcomer Rossy dissects his new Kevin Gates-assisted "My Team" anthem.]
My producer sent me the "My Team" track and I listened to it and laced it up with the "My Team" bars. Some time went by and we reached out to Kevin Gates' deejay and his name is DJ Ya Boy Earl. He's the deejay out at the Baton Rouge hip-hop stations.
He does radio for Baton Rouge's 94.1 FM station. He really helped the Kevin Gates feature go down. This record kind of came together overnight. We didn't really take too much time on the song. Once we got with Ya Boy Earl and talked, we decided this was the song we would put Kevin on.
It's one of those joints that just came out. Everything I do is for New Orleans. I'm New Orleans to the bone. Everything I do is going to have that feel to it. I think people in the other areas are going to feel it too.
Once we really started putting the record together, I could tell it was something special. I knew it was going to be big. I made sure to tweak the verses a little bit. I had the feeling once we got Kevin Gates on it, this would be the one right here.
I didn't really know about dude until recently. We only live a few miles away, but dude has been doing his thing for a while. I just recently started listening to his music and I know he's been doing this for a while.
People are starting to see that the South is lyrical.
Rossy, a 22 year old MC from New Orleans. He's been heard on Shade 45 and featured in various publications. This is the first look with Atlantic Records and Louisiana native Kevin Gates. We also filmed a "Getting To Know Rossy" video where he introduces you to his crew and various locations around New Orleans.
