After endless court appearances and twists, Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries' marriage is finally kaput following an approved divorce settlement this week.
Details of the headline-generating decision and divorce buzz scattered the Internet Friday (April 19).
A Los Angeles judge has approved a divorce settlement between Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries. Details of the agreement were not disclosed in a brief court hearing Friday, but the judge said he felt that settlement talks had led to resolution. The divorce will become final once papers are prepared and signed by the parties. Kardashian appeared with her lawyer and said she understood the terms of the agreement. Humphries did not attend. The judge dropped an order for the NBA player to appear and explain why he failed to attend a previous hearing. (USA Today)
During her appearance, Kim reportedly said counseling would not have helped them avoid divorce.
The Kourtney & Kim Take Miami star showed up on time for the proceedings Friday morning, and answered a few short questions from the judge, an eyewitness tells Us. When asked if irreconcilable differences led to the breakdown of the marriage, Kardashian responded yes. She denied that counseling would have helped the marriage. Save for the court's final sign-off on the judgment -- which will need to happen before June 19 -- Kardashian and Humphries are now officially divorced, just in time for the July arrival of Kardashian's baby with boyfriend Kanye West. According to reports, Kardashian helped Humphries avoid being fined after not showing up for their court hearing last week.
This is not just a settlement. It's a WIN for Kim and her lawyer, disso-queen Laura Wasser. The judge sent 2 different messages -- on the one hand saying the status of the marriage was dissolved, but then said it's over when they sign the official papers. But it seems like she's officially divorced, especially since the judge said to Kim, "Congratulations on your dissolution." One final thing. The judge was about to slap Kris with a financial penalty for being a no-show at last week's hearing, but Kim asked the court to drop it, and Kris skated. (TMZ)
The now-former couple tied the knot after a short period of dating back in summer 2011.
Kardashian and Humphries were married in August 2011. The two were married for 72 days before Kardashian filed for divorce in Oct. 2011. She is currently pregnant with rapper Kanye West's child. (Fox News)
