Rap mogul Jay-Z is skipping the formal press releases and Twitter comments to address his name being brought up on a range of topics these past few weeks by dropping his new "Open Letter" jam.
On the record, Young Hov confirms selling his stake in the Nets but boasts about still owning the Barclays Center and having lifelong floor seats.
"I done turned Havana to Atlanta," Hov raps. "Every time you think they got me I switch the plan up/Bulletproof this, radio scanners/Ballin' 'til they ban us/You gettin' too much bread, they tryna' jam you/Boy from the hood but got White House clearance/Sorry y'all, I don't agree with y'all appearance/Politicians never did sh*t for me/Except lie to me, distort history/Wanna give me jail time and a fine/Fine, let me commit a real crime/I might buy a kilo for Chief Keef/Out of spite, I just might flood these streets/Hear the freedom in my speech/Got an onion from Universal, read it and weep/Could've bought the Nets to Brooklyn for free/Except I made millions off it, you f*ckin' dweeb/I still own the building, I'm still keeping my seat/Y'all buy that bullsh*t, you'd better keep your receipt/Obama said chill, you gonna get me impeached/But you don't need this sh*t anyway/Chill with me on the beach" ("Open Letter")
Jay uses only a few bars in the second verse to once again touch on his controversial trip to Cuba last week.
"Y'all must to want to start a revolution/You know whenever I'm threatened I start shooting (bark!)/Catch a body, head to Houston/I'm in Cuba, I love Cubans/This time, the talking is so confusing/When it's from China, the very mic that I'm using/Idiot when, the Bob Dylan of rap music/You're an idiot baby, you should become a student/Oh you gonna learn today, where the f*ck have you been/The world's under new management/The new role model, fuck this Zoolander sh*t" ("Open Letter")
This week, Hollywood actress Stacey Dash took direct aim at Jay-Z and wife Beyoncé Knowles-Carter heading out to Cuba for their five-year anniversary.
Stacey Dash may get a sting from the Beyhive after this. The actress, who has been very vocal about political issues since the last presidential elections, has now turned her focus to Jay-Z and Beyoncé and their decision to spend their anniversary in Cuba. She's not very happy about it and she doesn't think you should be either. Dash tweeted, "Do you care that The Jay Z"s have taken the capital you have given them and funded a communist oppressive regime?" (Apparently, Hov and Bey's conjoined name is "The Jay Zs.") Judging by her followers' responses, no, they don't care. "I like you better when you were CLUELESS," one fan wrote, while another said, "What. Ever." (E! Online)
Hov has also raised eyebrows this week with talk of him selling his stake in the Brooklyn Nets.
Entertainment mogul and rapper Jay-Z has started the process of divesting his small share of ownership with the Brooklyn Nets to extend his Roc Nation Sports representation business into basketball, sources told Yahoo! Sports. Jay-Z - whose real name is Shawn Carter - owns less than 1 percent of the Nets, but has been a central public figure in the franchise's marketing and move from New Jersey to Brooklyn. Selling his share of the Nets is a necessary prelude for Jay-Z to obtain his National Basketball Players Association certification as an agent. NBA rules mandate that no one individual affiliated with a player representation company can have an ownership stake with an NBA team. (Yahoo News)
