Young Money president Mack Maine recently provided a brief update on what's going down with rapper-turned-"American Idol" panelist Nicki Minaj and promised the self-proclaimed Barbie is still penning new music.
Mack applauded Nicki's achievements as of late and said her constant non-music commitments have turned her into much more than just your average musician.
Nicki's a brand now," Mack Maine said. "Nicki's not just an artist, and that's hard for artists to become a brand. So whatever she wants to do, from the makeup to whatever, the clothing line, American Idol... She's still making great music." Mack shared that Nicki will be featured on a single for Future's upcoming album and noted, "She's back on the music grind again, so Nicki's doing everything we can ask and more. She's perfect." (MTV)
Last fall, the self-proclaimed Barbie talked about her follow-up to last year's Pink Friday: Roman's Revenge LP.
"[It's] a continuation of the Re-Up with a lot more. I have a lot more to say," Nicki said in an interview. "But production-wise, I like where the Re-Up went. I want to continue down that path and add onto that musically. ... At this point, it doesn't even matter [who I work with], to be honest. I've worked with so many amazing people and thank them again for giving me the opportunity. I feel like at this point, it doesn't matter. I feel like whoever I'm meant to work with, I'll work with them. It's out of my hands, it's out of my control now in terms of who I want to work with. I think it's just about the right time and the right chemistry." (FUSE)
Despite putting out hits, Minaj recently spoke on not yet landing a Grammy trophy.
"I've gotten tons of awards and I believe when it's my time to get a Grammy, I'll get a Grammy," she said with a laugh. "I understand that artists and critics make a big deal over the Grammys. But when I go to my shows and I'm selling out arenas in London, and when I'm in Australia and Japan, there aren't any Grammys there," she said. "There are human beings who I've touched. There are human beings who are inspired by me, who I love dearly. And that's what my career is based on." (Associated Press)
While fans continue to hear her new tunes and peep Nicki on "American Idol," she could be appearing in a theater near you in the years to come.
Nicki Minaj has set her sights on the big screen. She told Page Six on Oscar night, "I would love to act, it just has to be the right project, the right movie." "Nothing stereotypical about a singer," the rapper and "American Idol" judge said. "I have an agent, and we are looking at a couple of scripts, so we'll see." (New York Post)
