[Days after invading "The Late Show with David Letterman," Atlanta's Killer Mike gives local SOHH readers a reason to head out to Brooklyn tonight for his Scion AV Open Mic show.]
I'm definitely not going to be wearing my necklace tonight in Brooklyn. I have my Nikes on so I can get on up out of there.
Nah, but I'm going to give a high energy, high impact, hot and sweaty show tonight. It's going donw.
I'm going to do records from the beginning of my career up through right now. So you're going to hear a mixture of rap music from every Pledge and from the first joint.
New York is a lot of pressure. New York, London, Atlanta and Los Angeles are my most pressured places because I go in there and know everyone is looking at you. I know New Yorkers have seen a lot and with that said, every show I've done in New York has had an overwhelming response.
It's all about giving the audience all of the energy I've got and they return it. So even in New York, I'm throwing that motherf*cker down.
On the corporate side, I'm one of the cool guys that the coporations like right now. With that said, I can appreciate Scion and corporations like them that do open mics and support the culture from the ground up. Hats off to them for that.
OutKast associate Killer Mike earned his own hit in 2003 with "A.D.I.D.A.S." He debuted two years earlier on "The Whole World," from the greatest-hits Big Boi and Dre Present...OutKast. After signing to Columbia, his first single, "A.D.I.D.A.S.," hit the pop charts in March 2003, and the subsequent album, Monster, debuted in the Top Ten. In 2006 he released the first volume of his mixtape series I Pledge Allegiance to the Grind. Two years later a second volume appeared and then, in 2011, the series graduated to "above ground" status when the third volume, PL3DGE, landed on the SMC label.
