Brooklyn rapper Fabolous has weighed in on MTV's debated "Hottest MCs in the Game" Top 10 list and said while he agrees with the mentioned hip-hop artists, their placement may have been a little off.
Although fully behind the popular annual list, Fab suggested the music network consider how the Top 10 is presented.
"I don't know, number-wise, if everyone is in the right [position]," Fab said when asked about the debated list. "I feel those are the top ten hot, if you're just using the word 'hottest' emcees in the game last year. I think Meek Mill had a great year -- Future, of course, exploded that year, had some club records. A$AP Rocky, I don't think he had the same kind of club and influence that way, his was more his sound and base. You knew his name even if you weren't a particular fan of his music. ... I think they should also change it from top ten emcees, if it's about heat, they should just say the hottest guys in the game because sometimes it gets twisted with if you're talking about their rapping skills, so they should more change that. Of course, 2 Chainz had a phenomenal year." ("Los Angeles Leakers")
Prior to landing atop the list, West Coast rapper Kendrick Lamar applauded the controversial Top 10 rundown.
"It's very important for hip-hop," the Compton MC told Rap-Up TV on set of T.I.'s video for "Memories Back Then." "I love that they have debates like that. We need that. It's competitive. Even though we doing these collaborations and stuff like that and we cool, at the same time, this is still rap. It's still competitive and I'm trying to compete with everybody to be the best." He embraces the debate. "When people feel like they need to make their comments, I feel that's needed," said K-Dot. "You're supposed to feel like you're the best 'cause if you don't, you gon' get stepped on 'cause it's a jungle out there." (Rap-Up)
Atlanta rapper Soulja Boy Tell Em took personal offense to MTV's list.
"THAT NEW MTV LIST IS SOME BULLSH*T. IT HAS NO CREDITABILITY AND THE JUDGE PANEL HAD NO PASSION. IT WAS FIXED AND BIASED. NEXT YEAR THO," Soulja tweeted March 8th. (Soulja Boy Tell Em's Twitter)
After days of debating, the "Hottest MCs in the Game" list included rap acts ranging from Meek Mill to the top choice, Kendrick Lamar.
1. Kendrick Lamar 2. 2 Chainz 3. Rick Ross 4. Nas 5. Drake 6. Big Sean 7. Kanye West 8. A$AP Rocky 9. Future 10. Meek Mill ("Hottest MCs in the Game")
