Grammy-winning diva Mary J. Blige discusses the state of R&B and why she has a ton of admiration for fellow singer Rihanna despite the media hounding her personal life in the new issue of VIBE.
In her cover story, Blige credits RiRi as one of the main singers keeping their genre thriving.
"Maybe in 2012, in the middle, I was like, "What is going on? What is this?" Things got worse before they got better. I think things are going in the right direction. I am so proud of what Rihanna is doing. ... Yes. She is speaking to her generation, and she's living her life in front of them. I don't even think she's purposely doing it. She's such a beautiful girl, and I don't think she knows she's that beautiful. She's just living her life, and leading her generation, and she has great, great songs. Her career is amazing; and her team, obviously, is amazing." (VIBE)
She also speaks on the media pounding the 24 year-old for recently hooking back up with ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.
"They give her a hard time because she's living her life. As long as she's having fun and isn't three minutes away from wanting to shoot herself, good! I want her to be happy. That's impressive to me. And I love her songs. Adele also gives me hope. God bless Amy Winehouse. She was just the perfect thing." (VIBE)
In the new Rolling Stone magazine, Rihanna confirms rekindling their flame.
"When you add up the pieces from the outside, it's not the cutest puzzle in the world," Rihanna says. "You see us walking somewhere, driving somewhere, in the studio, in the club, and you think you know. But it's different now. We don't have those types of arguments anymore. We talk about sh*t. We value each other. We know exactly what we have now, and we don't want to lose that." And Rihanna says that if Brown were ever to display a hint of his past behavior towards her, she is ready to walk. "He doesn't have the luxury of f*cking up again," she says. "That's just not an option. I can't say that nothing else will ever go wrong. But I'm pretty solid in the knowing that he's disgusted by that. And I wouldn't have gone this far if I ever thought that was a possibility." (Rolling Stone)
Recent reports suggest pop star Katy Perry has distanced herself from RiRi since she started dating Breezy again.
A source told USMagazine.com: "They aren't tight anymore because Katy doesn't approve of Rihanna dating Chris Brown." But friends close to Rihanna, 24, insist she has no problem with Katy, 28, but doesn't care what anyone thinks about her relationship because she is happy. An insider said: "Rihanna doesn't have a problem with anyone and could give a f*** about what anybody thinks about her relationship. She was focused on her and Chris and enjoying her night. (The Sun)
