Bad Boy Records rapper French Montana recently discussed his admiration for rap moguls Diddy and Rick Ross, plus how much of an impact they had on his upcoming Excuse My French solo album.
In French's perspective, both rap exeutives stand out as two of the biggest hip-hop stars in the genre.
"Puff and Rozay got a special relationship," French said in an interview. "They're like Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen of the game. You know, like, Phil Jackson and Kobe [Bryant]. It's the chemistry they got. Puff, he raps when he wants to and Rozay is just one of the best to do it. When I was coming up, Rozay helped me out. So I always remembered that so when I got my deal, I worked it out so I got Rozay and I got Puff involved. I'm from New York, Puff's from New York. Rozay's my brother. I just wanted to make that marriage work and I made it work." (FUSE)
Along with help from Puff and Rozay, Montana has also relied on former Bad Boy protégé Ma$e to contribute.
When contacted by Billboard, Ma$e's camp deflected questions about his future plans. Reps from Maybach didn't return calls for comment. According to Montana, Ma$e is serving as an A&R representative on Montana's forthcoming Bad Boy debut, "Excuse My French," as well as appearing on the remix of Montana's "Everything's a Go." "I'm not sure what kind of decisions he's going to make," Montana says, "[but] I would love to see him in my camp." (Billboard)
Recently, French proclaimed his album would be one of the best in ten years.
"Rick Ross and [Diddy] are both executive-producing the album," French said in an interview. "I feel it's going to be a classic. I feel like it's going to be the best album to come out in a decade. ... The album of the decade because it's just it. I heard everybody's album and I'm a fan of everybody and I just don't feel like nobody came out with an album like this." (Rap-Up TV)
