[Each week, SOHH asks two entertainment personalities to name who they feel is the most underrated emcee in hip-hop. After Blu gave Gonjasufi the title earlier this week, New York painter/artist Alan Ket crowns Mos Def SOHH Underrated.]

Mos Def (SOHH Underrated)

Who is the most slept-on rapper? Wow. Who is the most slept-on rapper of any time? I would have to say Mos Def.

The first person who comes to my mind is Mos Def. I think Mos Def is an incredible lyricist. He's passionate about his community, he's a real person, people can talk to him and he's talking about real world issues with his lyrics.

I feel he's underrated. He started off at a small label, I think he started off on Rawkus Records and then I think he moved onto the acting and all of that but I feel like when you listen to his music and you listen to his solo album, his first solo album, when you listen to Black Star, which is his group, you can see and hear his mastery of lyricism and delivery.

I think he needs more recognition. I think he needs to be able to reach a larger audience because not only is he nice and talented but the subject matter of his lyrics is very important to hear and to share because it talks about what's going on today.
