With rap veteran Nas' Life Is Good solo effort up for "Best Rap Album" acknowledgement at next month's Grammy Awards, "God's Son" has considered whether or not the project is a certified classic.
While he did not lean one way or the other, Nasty Nas said time will ultimately determine his latest album's fate amongst fans.
"It's cool, you can call my record a classic; I'm not tripping. Time will really make me feel it or not, and then if a year from now, another two years from now, I really feel like it's a classic and no one else does, I'm gonna make noise! I'm gonna complain!" he laughed. "I'm gonna campaign for that title. ... If it's not a classic, that's cool. That means there's a different title for it that is a different meaning for the record. It wasn't a worldwide classic or a nationwide classic or a 'hood classic but it ... was important and it was incredible. You don't have to always be classic: You can be incredible, you can be meaningful or needed." (MTV)
Nas' star-studded solo effort faces stiff competition next month with albums from Drake, Lupe Fiasco, Rick Ross and The Roots all up for Grammy gold.
Best Rap Album » Drake, Take Care » Lupe Fiasco, Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album, Pt. 1 » The Roots, Undun » Nas, Life Is Good » Rick Ross, God Forgives, I Don't » 2 Chainz, Based on a T.R.U. Story (Grammy)
Last year, Slaughterhouse's Royce Da 5'9 gave Nasir Jones props for his LP.
Aside from their own record, Royce has been listening to Nas' latest Life Is Good. "I got Nas' album on repeat," he revealed. "I take it to all different eras of hip-hop. I'll listen to 'Accident Murderers,' 'World's an Addiction,' and then I'll go back to It Was Written." (Rap-Up)
New York rapper Fabolous gushed over the quality behind Nasty Nas' newest solo effort over the summer.
"I think it's actually a breath of fresh air for hip-hop," Fab said. "It's a different direction than a lot of the hip-hop that's been coming out more recent. It's so fresh. It's so good to hear fresh music once in a while. You know, nothing wrong with the sound that's in hip-hop right now, except for that it's over-saturated you know, but I think Nas gives a different approach. I think that's dope. "It's just about making great hip-hop overall and I think Nas' album adds to that," 'Loso added. (XXL Mag)
