Nearly a decade since former comrades Jay-Z and Dame Dash broke up Roc-A-Fella Records, a handful of group members reunited this week in New York City.
According to reports, the soldout reunion brought back Freeway, Memphis Bleek and more all on the same stage.
The Roc was in the building on Wednesday night at New York City's Gramercy Theater. Dubbed the "Roc-A-Fella Reunion Concert," the show didn't feature some of the labels flagship names as Jay-Z, Kanye West, Beanie Sigel, Cam'ron, and Dame Dash weren't present. The sold-out event was still a success as Freeway, Memphis Bleek, the Young Gunz, and Peedi Crakk held down the night. Backed by Just Blaze and Young Guru, the show was a trip down memory lane as classics from the storied label's catalogue were performed throughout the night. Mos Def made a guest appearance during Freeway's set for "Two Words," while N.O.R.E. joined Peedi Crakk for "Superthug." (Miss Info TV)
Recently, Freeway hit up SOHH and talked about seeing former labelmates like Kanye West excelling in rap.
"Yeah, I'm definitely proud," Free told SOHH, referring to his Roc family flourishing independently. "Only the strong survive, you know what I'm saying? It's definitely good to see my brothers doing their thing. You know? Time waits for no one. [Young] Chris is working on a project that he's getting ready to drop, me and Neef are working on a project called With Or Without A Deal, a mixtape project. I'm getting ready to drop a mixtape and I'm dropping Diamond In The Rough sometime in November." (SOHH)
A few months ago, ex-Roc rapper Memphis Bleek updated fans on his relationship with his former labelmates.
"I speak to Young Chris, I speak to Freeway here and there," Bleek revealed on "RapFix Live." "I was in touch with Neef Buck not too long ago. I tried to reach out to [Beanie Sigel], but you know Beans got a lot of personal things he's dealing with. But at the end of the day, I'ma say it and you hear the words from my mouth: Them is all my dudes. No matter what went down, we fam. We came up together. It's almost like a cousin. You and your cousin can fight, but at the end of the day, y'all still family." (MTV)
Earlier this year, Freeway told SOHH State Property had plans to reunite for a project.
"We trying to get it together, man," Freeway told SOHH. "We've basicaly been trying to get it together. Hopefully we can get some SP stuff popping and it'll be good for hip-hop. We [were] just trying to get as much [music] in as we could before he [had] to go in. We want to have enough music so that you all won't even miss him, it'll feel like he's still out here. That's what we [were] trying to get done." (SOHH)
